Just completed my first build with a P7. Started with a wquiles cut down red Mag with stock switch and tail cap.
The P7 is this one from Dealextreme and then wired it directly to the switch. Built a custom battery holder; 2 x 17670 wired in series to give it 8.4v. I built one before for my Mini RoP It still needs some cleaning up (just a prototype).
I also added one of download's 55mm stainless steel bezel. The build turned out pretty good and I can now understand all the excitement behind the P7.

Nice. My first build was a simple 3D direct drive. Well, as it happened, and I guess everyone has to do it at least one, I ruined my P7. I finally got another and just ordered a hipCC from George. I have a 4D host waiting for it.

With over 8 v to it it must be crazy bright! Iam running one with two 123's and its just awesome. How about a beamshot outside at a tree or something some distance away? If you show me yours I'll show you mine!

I was told by another member he thinks the P7 he is running has a regulator built in otherwise it could not take that voltage.

I didnt build my light I bought it this way, love it!

Would like to build one soon though....

Is there a resistor or regulator in the module?
Mine is direct drive at 3.7V with full brightness.

There appears to be a circuit iside the module. DX claims it has regulation circuit. I didnt open it up due to it being potted with thermal adhesive. I figured that if the circuit goes :poof: ; I could very easily replace it with another circuit.

It looks like the brightness could be same as mine. Is the light in front the spill beam or camera flash? I still have the original relector though. A DX reflector is on the way. It'll....get here............someday?

Does the hotspot have any artifacts from the emmiter? That's only thing I don't like that I'm hoping the new reflector will cure.
I love how a cut down mag looks and I thought about cutting mine, a 2C with 1 18650 cell, but i'm not sure I want to give up the option of using 2 alkalines if I need to. It's still pretty bright with those, maybe 200+ lumens.

Nice job dude ;)

It is great to see those little 1xD's being used for projects :D

The cut down and re thread was done by Will and build by Davealso know as nailbender, great guy to work with! I love this thing. First shot is 30 feet away from the fence, between my house and my 1970 GTO:~) Second shot is up in a tree about 50 or so feet away.Old Sony digicam 5mp on auto.

No flash was used for the shot. It has a huge hotspot with a large amount of side spill. I can see a few atifacts at ~6 feet; but you only barely start to see the outline of the individule dies.

I have have a huge spill with the original reflector also. Aimed it at the middle of my back fence 66 ft. away, and the spill was wider than the 75 ft. fence. Probably 85 ft. of spill! And all of it bright and even. I can focus out the individual dies, but I still can see the bond wires and some blue streaks in the hotspot on white wall.
