Been a week since I got back from vacation. Went with my best friend and his wife. Was hoping he'd have e-mailed me pics from the trip by now, but looks like it'll take a bit longer.
Here's a breakdown of my trip:
Sun. 4th
Flew into Vegas. Got in late in the afternoon. Met up with my best friend and his wife. We stayed at a Time Share that his parents participate in. It was nice having a fully functional One Bedroom apartment. They had their own room just across the hall.
Attended a Cirque du Soliel show (Beatles LOVE). The show was mind-blowing! Even if you're not a Beatles fan, you will stil enjoy the show. If you are a Beatles fan, you'll O.D. on the awesome!
The show is tough to describe. Some of the performers stand out. Such as the living representation of Sgt. Pepper, the Red Queen, the Girl in the Window, and the Flower Boy. The stars of the show are the songs of the Beatles and a vintage VW Bug. (Yup, and not in a cheesy way either). The show isn't for young kids though. And a couple of scenes left a bad taste in my mouth. But overall, it was worth every penny. Unlike some jack-@$$ who takes a religious artifact, puts it into a jar of urine, calls it Art, and gets paid a ton of money to showcase his "Art" by an organization of morons; the Beatles LOVE show is true Art. It is the creation of beauty in an ugly world.
Mon. 5th
At around 11am, my best friend and I went to The Gun Store. A place where you can rent a variety of firearms to try out on premises, including full-auto machine guns. Another friend had gone there, and recommended the place. The staff was very professional. My friend's wife was feeling a bit under the weather, and she's not really into guns. So she slept in while we went out.
I can see why Glocks have such a loyal following. The muzzle flip from the Glock model 19 I tried out was very pronounced. Other than that, worked well. The H&K MP5 I tried next jammed instantly. Even our instructor couldn't find what was wrong with it. The fore-end was also a bit loose. Ironically, it worked just fine when another instructor tried it out. I was handed another H&K MP5. This one worked. Recoil was surprisingly strong for a .9mm sub-machine gun, even at full-auto. The 12-gauge pump shotgun reminded me why I'm not a fan of them. Racking that thing was a pain in the neck, as it frequently refused to do so. The full-auto AK-47 was a different story. Despite being cross-dominant, and having to shoot left-handed, I achieved incredible accuracy with it. My friend tried out the Glock. I wanted him to try a full-auto weapon, so I purchased that rental for him. He got to try out an M249 SAW.
The Gun Store sells Surefire lights. I was a bit disappointed by their limited selection of SF models.
That night, we all went to see Blueman Group. A great show. Very entertaining, fun, funny, and just a blast of enjoyment. The Blue men used Streamlight Stingers for one portion of their show.
Tues. 6th
Near the border between Nevada and California is a casino called Buffalo Bills. More laid back than the casinos in the heart of Vegas, it's a place for those who would rather spend less on table games.
My best friend's wife got a nice surprise from her mom... Tickets for all of us to go see Howie Mandel. What makes his shows so good is that he interacts with the audience. He has pre-planned material, but will improvise if he gets an audience that gives him great feedback. Thankfully, that's what he got with the audience we were a part of. The three of us were part of the lucky few that Howie directly interacted with during the show. My best friend's wife is shy around strangers. So of course we had to have a bit of fun with her in front of Howie. She almost managed to hide under the table. But we held her up, literally.
Wed. 7th
We left early, and got to Disneyland after 4 hours on the road; at around 9am. I started feeling ill soon after we got there... Thanks to my best friend and the slight cold he gave to both of us. (Vitamin chewing bum. I told him to knock it out with some extra-strength Tylenol Cold formula).
Noticed that one of the ride-operators had a satin Gunmetal Surefire 6P in a minimalist holster on his belt.
Thurs. 8th
Breakfast with Disney characters. Lots of fun. More fun for kids. Top-notch food. You eat while various Disney characters stop by your table for you to interact with.
Afterwards, we hit a gift shop. I got a cheap pen with "Disneyland" printed on the cap. My best friend's wife got shoved around by a female employee. Had it been a male employee, I'd be telling you all about my trip to the California jail to bail out my best friend after he punched out the dude who put his hands on his wife. Instead, I'll tell you about the comfy couch I sat on and waited while my best friend complained to a Disney manager.
Later that day, we caught the Aladdin Show inside Disneyland. Only a 45 minute show, but just as good as anything I've seen in Vegas. Plus, you don't have to spend extra money to see it.
Fri. 9th
My illness got worse. I decided to take it easy, and relax in the hotel room of the Comfort Inn we were staying at. Disneyland was a short drive from our hotel. I just wasn't up for it. My best friend ordered me a pizza, and I was looking forward to enjoying the free cable in our room. (The pizza was surprising good).
Disneyland was filled to capacity as apparently every parent in California decided to take their kids to Disneyland for the Columbus Day holiday. My best friend and his wife had been gone for about 3 hours. I thought they were enjoying the park. Turns out they were trying to find a place to park. Got the phone call from him, he was not happy... To put it mildly. We cut that part of the trip short, and headed back to Vegas.
Sat. 10th
We were all quite tired. (Thanks to my vitamin-chewing best friend). We spent the day walking the strip. At night, we went to a casino right next door to the Time Share. For $5 each, we got to see an '80s cover band. The Spazmatics were dressed like high School geeks, but performed like real Pros.
During the night, I got assaulted by an older drunken woman, while her husband watched on. Thankfully, another drunken wife went off to dance with the one who practically jumped on top of me. Unfortunately, it was my best friend's drunken wife.
We went back to the Time Share. I stayed up until it was time for my early morning flight back home.
Overall I had a good time. Was disappointed to see that none of the slot machines in Vegas take or pay out in coins anymore. But they do make the pay out sound of coins hitting the bottom if you win. They just give you a printed out piece of paper to redeem at the Cashier's cage. It's not the same.
