Just bought a Thrunite TiKey and I really like it but the tint is really bad. So I want to change the emitter. Where can I get a bright high quality around 4500K 5mm LED?

thanks

for a light that nice I would say the new Cree 5mms probably have the least tint with a nicer beam pattern and decent longevity. The nichias I have seen are rather tinted from angry blue to purple/yellow. Unless it is easy to change out those are probably the two brand lines that would last a decent length of time, other 5mm LEDs you take your chances of them dimming after awhile noticeably.

I thought of the Cree 5mm LEDs too. Do you know where I can get some in 4500K?

I don't recall ever seeing 5mm LEDs listed by color range like that. I would suggest you consider seeing if a high power cree LED could be used instead. There would be some issues adapting it but they are available in 4500k I believe. I vaguely recall seeing a cree high power LED that is very tiny that is about the size of a 5mm package but I don't recall if it was an MP or XP series. I have not been keeping up with the changing dies well lol

According to the reviews, this light uses the Nichia GS. I don't know the bin, but even the warmest bins I have still have the blueish center to the beam. The Crees don't have that pronounced angry blue center although most LEDs will be a tad cooler towards the center.

I have some Crees 5mm in 28-32 cd Wp tint bin which is what I call a "neutral cool" white. These are as bright as the GS at 20 ma.

Also have 5mm 32-39 cd cool white. These are just a bit brighter than the GS at 20ma.

I know of no 4500K 5mm LEDs unless you want to take a hit in brightness.

You can have them for the cost of shipping which is around $2.

Where do we get them?

Where do we get them?

I don't know where you can reliably order the exact bins. If you use Digikey and order C503C-WAN-CBADA151, they may send you a premium bin since that part number pretty much specifies the whole brightness and bin range. You can't pick and choose. You get what they send.

My story is this: A CPF member (who requested to remain anonymous) contacted me and gave me appreciation on my LED tests and offered to send me a bunch of Cree LEDs at no cost so I could test them and such. Lets just say he sent me gobs of various Cree 5mm LEDs! I have sent many of them to another member, who is supposed to be managing a free giveaway of them (+shipping), since I can't handle a lot of requests. I will withhold who that is until he is ready to sell as a courtesy so he is not inundated with requests. I can offer some of mine from time to time.

I have a limited number of 28-32cd Wp bin and the 32-39cd Wn bin available (all 15 Deg beam).

I have lots of 28-32cd of around Wk bin
I have a bunch of 110 Deg low dome 5mm whites, Wf - Wn bins (Wf is really bluish white)
I also have Amber 25 Deg(? need to check beam angle). Amber LEDs were never that bright, but these are pretty good.

According to the Gov'mnt my salary puts me into the poverty range. That's what I get for leaving my IT career and starting my own business (nothing to do with LEDs) in a crappy economy. I can't loose money to give them away so I have to charge shipping plus the bubble mailer for around $2.

FWIW, if you'd be willing to ship international I'd happily take 5 or so of the Wp binned 5 mms and pay for both shipping and the time you spend. Assuming there're any left after rayman and AAS have had their pick, since they expressed interest first.

Looks like it is $2 to ship to Australia as it is to most other countries. I can send you 5. PM me.

Modded the TiKey with the Cree 5mm which I got from JohnR66. Came out pretty good. The tint is much whiter. It was hard to take a good beamshot but the tint was really purple-bluish and is now pure white. It also has a narrower beam and brighter hotspot. Really like it now.

Thank you very much JohnR66 for the LEDs .

Looks good!

The "after" photo makes the new LED look as if it is making overall less light. I assume this is because you used less exposure with the camera? These LEDs should be close in total light output.

If anyone needs 5mm LEDs, let me know.

It was kind of hard to take good beamshots. The Nichia LED is more floody but the Cree has a much brighter hotspot.
