Need a long thrower...

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

I am surprised none of you have mentioned the Malkoff M60, it seems perfect for what you are asking.

The M60 doesn't throw all that well. Don't get me wrong as I like mine a lot. But when it comes to throw, it falls short of the OP's requirement of significantly greater throw then a TK11.

The DBS seems like the natural though. Always near or at the top of the list for king of the throw. The size is great relative to what you get in return. And best of all you get fantastic service with Dereelight and US seller Flashcrazy.

I would highly recommend the Sunlite Eagle 8w for your application. Visit their website here: http://www.powerledlighting.com/

I did a lengthy review on it here....with plenty of pictures: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=217294

Here is what it looks like compared to a Fenix T1. This thing advertises a throw of 600ft, but I know it goes much farther. I can see it reflecting off of trees and buildings over 1000ft away. It is moisture resistant and rechargeable!

Here are a couple quick shots I took comparing it to my Fenix T1:

Eagle on Left, T1 on Right:

Again with the exposure tightened up progressively:

It really is not as large as it looks.

Yet, throws a very tight beam. It will run you $150 for the light, battery, and charger, but the neat thing about Sunlite products is the ability to upgrade the heads with the latest technology.

I highly recommend you go with this Eagle 8w. All of their products have a lifetime warranty. If you aren't satisfied, shoot them an email and they will take care of you, pronto.

The new JetBeam M1X being offered at BOG in the dealers forum fits the bill.

1)Has stainless bezel and tailcap to protect it when dropped.2) Can use CR123, RCR123 or 2 18650's with extender. 3) Quality company. 4)Larger reflector should throw well. 5)$149.00 6) About M3T size 7) Can be left in one mode. 8) Has MC-E LED should be dependable.

Worth a look, hopefully I'll have mine soon.

after owning several popular lights here on cpf for the last couple months, and using them a lot, i can say that my newest addition

jetbeam 3 ibs.

throws a beautiful powerful beam.

at 50 feet away the hotspot is about 8 feet across and very bright.

i know now there are nearfield, midfield and farfield lights.

the jetbeam 3 ibs is mid/farfield ideally.

not much use up close, but if you want to see whats going on 50-100 feet from you its ideal.

for $80

I am also looking for a long thrower and saw this at CPFMP:

It looks very promising and I really like the design also.

I can't imagine that one could get much better throw than that in an LED production light. Page 4 of that thread finally has a beam shot. It conveys limited information because there are no other light comparisons, BUT you can see that it throws a very tight beam. With the fairly well known output of the MC-E emitter, that actually should tell us quite a lot about the throw.

It claims compatibility with primaries and rechargeables. No idea about holsters, maybe someone else can answer that, but if that can be solved then you might have a strong contender.

We're looking at the Jet as an individual carry light and trying to get a sample for evaluation. Looking for lights that go beyond it's capabilities as a compliment to every day carry lights.

Yeah the MX1 certainly has perked my interest. Thanks for the input one and all.

PS Can't wait for Mev or selfbuilt to get a MX1 for review...
