Need a very bright bike light?

Help Support Candle Power:

Try Lupine
Expensive, but supposedly the brightest.
Also, try the HID versions of Nightrider, JetLight, Light 'n Motion, etc.

hula,

I just made a bike light, which a bought one would cost double or triple, plus, longer batt. life.
Here is where I got most of my inspiration.
www.thefathippy.com
I also used stereo connectors/wires for hook ups, and put them on the charger as well, so I just unplg the lights, and plug in the charger. It works really well. The fat hippy uses a 12v 20w halogen which you can easily buy at any hardware store, called an mr16. I used 3-5w halogens(mr11). they are 6v lights, but seem to work fine as long as I keep them cool in foward motion (a notion which has driven some nutty trying to figure out, I dunno, I just go with it
?) I should get about 4 hours @15w out of my 7amphe batt., and did get two hours the other night, riding 20 miles or so, just ran out of trail, with no noticable reduction in brightness.
2 hrs for the 20 watt. very bright very effective.

Why does everyone on this site seem to always recommend buying lights, I thought this was homemade lights site?
Geez?

Happy to answer any q's you might have about it all. I'm not an expert, but I've learned allot throught failure.

sorry hula, I didnt know you were joking (you were joking right) I mean 250 watts? I loved it though, and his 23 inch suspension bike, they were going for 26 inch, but thought it was just stupid! Of course if you do decide to do it, I would like to know if your tire really melts.
As far as bright though. they fat hippy says his 20 watt halogen gets cars flicking their brights at him, better yet,you can get an mr16 in 50 watts.

Thanks for posting the website, everyone ought to check it out for a good laugh. Try not to let it give you any ideas.

That's a heck of a site.
The 250w might be a bit much for normal riding, but it'd be fun for the idiots who have their high-beams stuck on, or forget to turn the lights on in the first place.
