Ok, I know what I'm carrying everday and want to put in one, but I'm not sure which one I can get that's the smallest possible size and can hold everything.

What I'd like to EDC in them are:
Dell DJ MP3 player (105 x 69 x 22 mm)
Kyocera 7135 cell phone (101 x 62 x 30 mm)
Olympus Stylus 410 digital camera (99 x 56 x 34 mm)

My choices seem to be:
M1 versipack (140 x 91 x 53 mm)
M2 versipack (132 x 39 x 46 mm)
Thermite versipack (203 x 121 x 76 mm)

Now... all those figures are from the Maxpedition page. The thermite's figures are stated as being the dimensions of the main pocket.

However, what about the M1/M2? What is that a measurement of? Does anyone have one? Will my stuff fit in either?

Thanks.

I have the Proteus pack,,, and a Fatboy on the way. so sorry, I cant really help you.

But, I can add some advice... all the Maxpedition stuff is smaller than it looks on the net.
Use www.google.com to search for the different packs, and click on "images" at the top of the google page to give you just the pics.
This should help you get a better idea of the shape and size of them.

Is your camera one of the models, that the lens sticks out, even when off? if so, that will probably be your biggest worry for these.

Hmm... it sorta sticks out.

I'll check an image search, and see what comes up.

Well, I couldn't decide what to do... so I bought both.

It was the CPF thing to do.

Total EDC volume: 536 cm^3
M2 volume: 237 cm^3
M1 volume: 675 cm^3
Thermite: 1867 cm^3

I have an M2, and let's assume that the dimensions given are the main pocket. The M2 is out, because, based on the numbers, there is no way they would fit, and The only external pocket would take only one item, say the cell phone, so
EDC no phone: 348 cm^3. So I have at least eliminated the M2 as an option /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The M1 has enough volume, but I don't have one, so I cannot say how it is distributed, and if everything would fit. If someone has an M1, and is ambitious, they could fold scrap cardboard to your dimensions and see if it fits.
The only other solution is to check the return policy, maybe you can try it and send it back to get the thermite.

Getting both the thermite and the M1 works also, you could still return the one that doesn't work, but once you have them I bet you can't give them up.

ah, yours isnt the cam i was thinking of, thats alot smaller.

LOL, yep, you did good, just get both. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
BTW,,, which both?

I agree, i dont think the M1 will be quite large enough

The both I got were the M1 / M2. I thought about getting a thermite as well, but it's sorta overkill in terms of room, and wanted something I could attach via belt. The M4 well... I didn't want something as big as a canteen holder strapped to my belt. (although I could CCW my Glock 17 with it...)

Oh yeah, and I broke open Paint Shop Pro, and drew some boxes where 1px = 1mm to prototype em. The M2 really won't fit at all, but might be useful if I leave something at home or want a smaller EDC someday.

I'll probably end up using the M1, for now at least.

I have an M1 that I connected to my Fatboy for carrying my camera around along with batteries, memory cards, etc. My camera looks to be about the same size as yours (Olympus D-550), and I dont think there is any way you'll fit a phone and mp3 player in with it. I can see one or the other, but both would be pushing it, especially with extra batteries, headphones, etc.

Hmm. Another thing I could do is just leave the MP3 player at work with the headphones and AC adapter. There's no reason in particular I'm dragging it around, I only listen to it at work.

Lemme know if you want to unload the M1 or M2 when you get em, i might need one, thx!

Sounds like it might be a bit of a tight fit with all those stuff in there, mebbe the H1 would've fit better with some spare room as well? Altho personally i feel the M1 and M2 form factors are definitely much nicer than the H1...

Edit: Take a look at these threads here and here, hope these give you a rough idea of what you can fit in the M1s and M2s...

Stanley, I have a brand new M2 that I need to sell. PM me if interested. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey, I have the M2, a Falcon Pack, and I use the FatBoy for my EDC. I too carry a lot of stuff. I have a 15 Gig Dell DJ, Surefire G2Z, Sanyo 8100 cell, and in the bag, I have a Otter Box 1010 (containing my PSK), a Surefire SC1, a 8x21 monocular, and lots of other things, with plenty of room to spare for whatever book I am reading that week (soft cover) and some extra stuff. I attach the M2 to the outside of the bag using the attachment system on the M2 and FatBoy, and in it I keep my FAK. Hopefully this helps. I love the Maxpedition stuff, and have nothing but good things to say about their items.

Sad to say, I think what you really want for those three is the Maxpedition H1 - phone sheath on the side, decent-sized main pocket for other electronics, and a couple others for small items... looks like there's one more on the 'buy both' list...

I need to check out the M2, and see if it might be helpful for me...

I just recieved my M1 and M2 today.

M2-- almost too small (imo)... I can *barley* fit the camera, cell phone, Surefire M4, and a Leatherman Micra into this. I also don't like the way the pen / pencil holders stick out, kinda dorky.

M1-- not much bigger but a LOT more effective room. Numerous subdivides, etc. I could fit my Kel-Tec P32 handgun, spare magazine, Olympus camera, Surefire L4, Leatherman Micra, pencil, pen, cell phone, and still have room left over.

The only problem is all that stuff makes it FAT. Even the cell phone and camera alone are about 1" thick each, so the thing is quite a bulge for the size...

I usually wear a long shirt untucked and I can't really with that kind of bulge, so debating my options... 1) start tucking (looks sorta bad cause I'm overweight, guess I need to run my *** on the treadmill more)... 2) carry it seperately or get a Thermite and carry that seperately.

They're both very well made, but I'd have to recommend the M1, because despite being not much larger it has a lot more actual capacity.
