Never seen one before either. Actually, I have read many posts on multiple knife forums, and I very rarely read about 5.11 knives. S30V steel is high quality, though.
Most guys who are willing to spend $150 for a folder look elsewhere, in my experience. Spyderco and Benchmade are wildly popular. My $150 EDC folder is a ZDP-189 Kershaw Leek (now discontinued). The main thing I look for is dedicated knife company that stands behind their products and provides excellent warranty service, if you ever need it. I broke the tip of my Leek a few months ago, and Kershaw fixed it right up for me, free of charge. Would 5.11 would do that for you? I honestly don't know.
