I am looking to build my next duty light. I am relatively new to all of this so I am looking for some help. I would prefer a 3c body for size and weight. Anyone want to share a reciepe?

Let's start easy - are we modding an existing 2C?? Incandescent or LED??

Re: Need help with 2c Mag build

Well...... I have both the 2C and 3C all ready. After giving this more thought, I am leaning towards a 3C build. I currently carry a Soel modded Gladius and a Stinger running a 1499? and 2 18650's which is pretty darn bright. I want something a little more substantial in the hand then the stinger but not "D" sized.

I have some bi-pin WA 01331 and some WA 01166 which I think will fill the brightness needs............for now....... hahaha.

The key issue is reliability for lack of a better term this is a SHTF duty light it has to work everytime.

Re: Need help with 2c Mag build

I have 2 quick answers for a 3C duty light.

1)M3CROP LOLA (low bulb)
-3c host with a stretched tailcap spring
-fivemega mop reflector
-pvc conduit battery adapter
-borofloat lens
-2X18650 Ultafire (protected and buttoned) Li-Ion cells
$58.50 plus shipping plus charger
Awesome value - beats my streamlight 20xp
Easy charging solutions

2)M3CAW85
-3c host with shortened tailcap and spring
-AW Incan Driver
-fivemega or litho123 reflector of choice (camless)
-borofloat lens
-3xAW C Li-Ion cells
$192.50
More expensive, complicated, needs a better and more expensive charging solution, better performance and flexibilty

I have carried both of these on duty. It is hard to beat option 1 for an easy build and lumens per $.

I have more confidence in option 1 for reliability (gut feeling). I don't know how well my AW85 will take being droped (escpecially directly on the face of the bezel). Will the bi pin bulb move forward, etc? Option 2 is very flexible with 3 levels of light and is definately brighter than Op 1.

I don't like a ROP High for a duty light - not enough runtime and too bright for a lot of work. Not may lights can compete with option 1 (dollar for dollar). I like option 2 for higher performance and flexibility.

If interested I can send / link pics of both these builds.

BTW - I also carry a fenix P2D on my duty belt for when something bad happens to my main light. I used to carry a Scoprion and then a Strion on my belt. I opted for the smaller P2D when tasers were added to our belts. The P2D is very small and comes with a thin holster (great for saving belt space).
