hi guys,

New here so bear with me.
I have Philips Diamond vision H1 bulbs on my car (honda prelude 97).
I have fitted a new projector headlights for it and the light is not satisfactory for long distance driving.
I have been looking for some H1 bulbs which has a color temperature of 5000K + which is very bright on the road and also great looking.

I have been looking at the Osram Night Breaker and they seem good.
I also have been talking to some sales guys at bulb websites and one of them have replied the below:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Philips Diamond Vision is essentially a styling product and delivers a blue light but little road usable light. For performance, we would recommend Philips X-Treme power which delivers 80% more road useable. This bulb delivers a brighter, whiter light and is our best seller. (powerbulbs.com)

Been looking at HID also but I dont think I will go there as I might run into space issues. Can you guys help me out please

Cheers,
Nik

Welcome to CPF, nicks.

As your question is about lights for your car, I'll move your thread to the Automotive section.

This is another response I got from eautoworks.com

Thanks for your email Nikhil! You hit the nail on the head! The M51 is exactly what I would put in there. Polarg is by far my favorite bulb manufacturer and the 4350K high power series is the best. You won't be disappointed in their performance.

Manufacturers make incandescent bulbs look whiter by filtering them. Filtering blocks light. If you want more light on the road, don't use a tinted bulb it's as simple as that.
To get the most from your headlights, upgrade the wiring.

So how can I get whiter light without buying tinted bulbs? Do you think the Osram Night breakers are good then?

Also, isnt upgrading the wiring sort of a big job?

The answer is easy: forget all the blue-tinted "super white" bulbs from any manufacturer. Forget about so-called "kelvin ratings". Buy the bulb that produces the greatest amount of light with the best beam focus. Because colored glass blocks light, you don't want it. The best H1 available right now is the Osram Night Breaker. There's no H1 in the Philips Xtreme Power lineup. Remember, your headlamps aren't supposed to look like HIDs because they're not HIDs. All the colored-glass bulbs do is tint the light, which reduces your ability to see. Period. And "HID kits" in halogen-bulb headlamps (any kit, any headlamp, any vehicle) do not work safely or effectively, which is why they are illegal. See here.

U guys have been great help. Thanks for all the information Scheinwerfermann. Did not know most of the stuff. Did anybody here use the Osram Night breaker? Its the only contender at the moment.

About the Philips Xtreme Power H1 check this link

Hey, look at that. Must be a new release, it didn't exist the last time I looked about a month ago. I generally like the Xtreme Power better than the Night Breaker (less blue glass on the XP than on the NBR) but really it's hard to go wrong with either of them.

Well here is another comment from powerbulbs - not sure why Philips is better (must be because of the slight tint on osram night breakers)
----------------------------------------
Unfortunately, we don't have any pictures that show light output through a projector headlight.

Philips X-Treme power have been voted 'Best Buy' by Auto Express for the last three years running and is our best seller. OSRAM Night breaker is a similar product and cheaper, and claims to 90% vs Philips 80% but in independent tests carried out by Auto Express, Philips have the slight advantage.

Philips do not quote a colour temperature for X-Treme Power because the bulb is designed for performance and not for styling.

I'm still not sure which I should get lol.

Is there anywhere I can find picuters of them....I thinking of getting both and put one behind the projector and one for high beam. Which ever performs the best will go behind the projector. Is there a tool that auto electricians use to test the light intensity? (what is it called)

Hiya nicks,

Scheinwerfermann knows what he's talking about, and both the Osram Night Breaker and Philips X-Treme Power are your best choices. I've got one of them in my projector lenses right now (though oddly, I can't recall which one).

I think the difference between them is almost too small for you to notice, so I'd just buy whichever one is cheaper at the moment.

So is the Philips one bright white or yellow(you the standard look) in color. I cant find any light indication. I want to buy both Philips and Osram but the thing is if the colors look different its gonna look weird !!

You don't need pictures of them. The appearance of the operating lamp (or the tint of white when you shine the lights on a white garage door) are totally irrelevant, and all you can possibly do by chasing a particular tint of white is waste money and reduce your ability to see. Again, yours are halogen lamps. They're supposed to look like halogen lamps. You cannot make them look like Xenon lamps, and every bulb that claims to do so brings with it a substantial loss in seeing performance.

If your lenses aren't already clean and polished, consider doing that first. Even a thin layer of oxidation can dim and diffuse your headlights. Permatex makes a kit for this: http://www.permatex.com/products/au...o_Permatex_Headlight_Lens_Restoration_Kit.htm. It's about $15. If your headlight lenses are already in good shape, nevermind... :)

Well my lenses are brand spanking new....so I would think i wouldnt need to clean my lense. I'm gonna get me some Night Breaker's. I wonder if there is much color difference between Philips Xtreme and the night breakers?
