Need smallest diameter AA NiMH cells

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

not having any 2650 to measure I would guess eneloops or hybrids would be slightly smaller in diameter.
Maybe it is possible to modify the case by cutting the dividers down if the cells are not touching each other that would make for more room perhaps.

I'm guessing the diameter is the issue and not the length?

I just measured the OD for one of my Duraloop NiMH's (Duracell rebranded Eneloop) with a set of calipers and got:
0.560" +- 0.002"
Measuring a US-mfg Alkaline AA and got:
0.550 +- 0.001"

Hope this helps,
K

Thanks! I'll buy some Eneloops or Duraloops to try.

I would like to avoid cutting the case, but we will see.

I have an old Tacstar 1xAA extension tube for the AA Mini Maglite (turns it into a 3xAA light). Genuine Eneloops are too large in diameter to fit easily into the extension tube. AA Duracell alkalines fit fine. I need to test fit some old, generic NiMHs in the dark green wrapper, as well as some old white label Duracell Rechargeable Accu NiMH cells (all of these old cells are well under 2000mAh capacity -- I think 1400mAh for the green wrapper cells and 1800mAh for the Duracells).

The skinniest AA cells I have are the Duracell and Sanyo 1700mAh cells, which I suspect are the same thing. They have "HR" embossed on the base.

The old, dark green wrapper generic NiMH cells measure the same diameter as a copper top Duracell AA alkaline. And the dark green generic NiMHs fit easily in my Tacstar 1xAA extender. These old generics are also 1600mAh, not the 1400mAh that I had guessed earlier.

The Duracell Rechargeable Accu 1800mAh NiMH cells are a few 1000ths larger in diameter vs the Duracell alkalines, but they still fit my Tacstar extender. One Duracell Accu out of five was tighter (too tight) than the others and it also measured the largest in diameter (0.560").

My Powerex 2000mAh NiMH cells are like my Eneloops. Too tight of a fit.

don't even consider the kodak precharged (if you can even find them) they are some of the largest AAs I have seen.
