Hi all!

I need a few 5 mm leds for several projects and would like to know what are the whitest brightest out and where to buy them. I seen some JEleds that sell on ebay for about 10 bucks for 30 pcs. but I haven't bought any in years, are they better now?

Thanks!

IMO, Nichia 500DS or 500CS are the best in terms of quality, consistency, and color rendition.

As far as I know, 55cd Jeleds have a rather ugly beam, with weird blotches here and there.

I ordered some a few months ago, but got sent 18cd ones by mistake. I wanted to send them back in order to get the proper replacements, but a pernicious mix of laziness, procrastination and forgetfulness have resulted in me still having the 18cd buggers here today.

Oh well.

If you want the brightest LEDs you probably want Nichia GS. If you care a lot about beam quality and colour, Nichia DS are probably better, though dimmer.

If you need large quantities get cheapo 20cd ones on eBay instead. Not quite as bright, but stupidly cheap and they do have a very nice uniform white beam.

Get the SMJled's from the Shoppe.

Then take a month to find some true white GS'es, or 4 months.........

I'm sure there will be a group buy.

Is there still no other way to buy small quantities of GS, than cannibalizing DX fauxtons? I'd be happy with DS too.
