I just bought a light from five mega that I intend on using a 50w bulb in. The 100w will just be for playing around but I will primarily use the Osram 50w bulb day to day. (It's one of his maglite mods) 12AA in a 3D light. Which cells will give me the best runtimes? I am looking into the Elite 1700's and the Eneloop's. Mostly concerned with runtime as a 50w light is going to be just plain bright anyway. Other suggestions are welcome, I'm not stuck on either of the two batteries mentioned before. I am completely new to this modding thing and have no idea how to determine which ones will be best for this particular setup. I searched around and see a lot of guys on here often mention those two so that is how I made my first decisions.

Thanks for your input and patience!

that's what I needed. Thanks! Now I gotta go calculate how much current that bulb will be using driven at 14.4 volts.

P=IV, or I=P/V = 50/14.4 = 3.47 amps. (Or double that for the 100W bulb.) The Eneloop will have about 1.76Ah at that draw, so it should last very close to half an hour.

thank you so much.....I was actually looking up how to calc. all that and came back and saw you did it for me.:D half hour isn't bad runtime out of that kind of light.

thanks again!

It was probably a 12V 50W bulb, which would run at 4.1666A at 12V, at 14.4V it will run at about 4.6A (66 watts). Don't expect 30 minutes, maybe more like 20 minutes on good cells.
