Friggin' MORE COWBELL!!!
Howdy...

I was looking around the other day and saw a neat tactical nylon notepad cover and like an idiot, I didn't bookmark it. It was small enough to easily fit in a BDU pocket, zipped shut, cover could flip around to the back to provide a hard surface to write on. It's made of Cordura nylon and will fit a 3"x5" or 4"x6" notepad. It isn't the Raine one, btw.

Please help...I've looked all over my favorite sites, hoping I saw it there, but no luck.

Thanks for any leads...

I have one. $7.99 fits in the BDU pocket. I carry mine with "write in the rain" 4by6 notebook, NYC paramedic protocols, fisher space pen and small calendar. Perfect. Just don't buy the refills offered thru the web site. They are not special, just 50 cents notebooks you can buy anywhere but they sell it for $1.99

Thanks guys...

I don't think those are going to work...the bullet-resistant one is nice, but need it to be flexible and fit in a BDU pocket.

I also know about the one from the Rite in the Rain people...that's the Raine one and not the one I saw. The one I saw folds back so you have a hard surface to write on...probably has a semi-flexible plastic plate in it.

Thanks again...will keep looking. I'm gonna end up with a 30MB list of bookmarks from now on! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

we used to call those "Jr. General Kits", a guy in our unit made them.

Well, not really being satisfied with anything I've found so far (and not wanting one in CADPAT), I decided to make my own and I like it a lot, even if I say so myself!

I'm thinking about making these on a limited basis if anyone wants one. I'll post pictures later...it's a trifold design and can hold the 4" x 6" notepads including those by Rite in the Rain and Rhodia. Also has a space for a flashlight, a pen and pencil...and a Velcro-secured flat pouch. Closes with Velcro.

Anyway, that was the extent of my sewing abilities -- or rather the capabilities of the machine I used. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ok, here ya go...

The neat thing about the trifold design is the left and right panels can fold behind the center panel so that it's more compact when writing on the notepad and at the same time, it provides a more stable writing surface.

I made mine out of camo...I still have most of the yard left, but need to order more binding tape and Velcro. I'll explain the pics...

When opened, the left panel has space for the flashlight and another slot for a normal-sized pen and pencil or one larger version of either. The Arc LS with "AA" pack fits nicely...the Longbow (shown) also fits, but makes the pouch a little bulky. In the next version, I'll probably add a Velcro-secured flap to cover the flashlight pouch and pens.

The center panel holds either a Rhodia notepad or any standard 4" x 6" notepad. The right panel holds a flat pouch, secured along its length by Velcro. There is another pocket there for another notepad if you like or just to keep a small map in, etc. I was going to sew on a 2" piece of Velcro (fuzzy side) in the empty space above the slot, but forgot. You could put a leather nameplate or patch there. I could put the Velcro on the outside, if preferred. If I can find a suitable, flexible plastic material, I'll probably sew a panel of it behind the center panel. Any or all inside panels can be made of brightly colored material for emergency signaling purposes.

BTW, 1000 denier Cordura is EXPENSIVE!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif
