New BD Zenix IQ w/reflector - much improved

It looks like BD has redesigned the Zenix IQ for 2007.

I was at REI today, and looking at headlamps as usual, and I noticed some of the Zenix IQs looked slightly different - they have reflectors instead of collimators!

So I bought one, and brought it home. It does indeed have a reflector, and a comparison against my CREE + IMS 17 showed the new reflector has a wider hotspot and a very slightly wider spill than the IMS17, so the beam is much nicer than the original collimator.

The BD Zenix is kinda pricy at $50, but it's the easiest to mod headlamp I've seen so far, and it's fully regulated.

Sounds interesting. I have the first edition Zenix (Luxeon 1) that I still carry around in my backpack and havent replaced yet. That light hasn't failed me yet so I havent needed to replace it.

Perhaps I should seek out the new one and give it a look. A Cree, or SSC regulated headlamp sounds nice. :rock:

I have three BD Zenix IQs...I've already modded one with a Cree XR-E, yep and IMS17. It's comparable to my PT Apex with more spill.
