Greetings all,

I apologize if someone has already mentioned this, but I am on dailup and have not been reading the forums as much as I normally do. I hit the Academy Sports over in Lake Charles, Louisiana today and they had two new Brinkmak Maxfire LX xenon tactical lights in stock. Basically the look like Brinkman's answer to the Surefire G2. They have black polymer bodies, are fixed focus, replace the bulbous head of the LX with a cylindrical one much like a regular Surefire bezel (includinc scalloped light vents at the edge of the bezel) and run a lamp assembly that looks very much like a scaled up E-series LA. Still has a click tailcap switch, but the actions feels much better than on any of the LX's that I have owned in the past. Retail price was $19.95!!! I bought one and tried it out, and it is pretty nice. Beam quality/brightness is pretty much on par with my E2 w/ MN02 bulb. Overall I am pretty pleased with it, and will be checking with Brinkman to find out how much spare bulbs cost.

They also had a ni-cad rechargable version, same basic design but longer selling for $24.95 with one battery stick and charger. The battery stick was 4 x 2/3A nicad cells and marked 4.8 volt 660MaH (which did not strike me as offering very long runtime).

I am out of town now, but will try to post a couple pics Friday when I am back in the office.

The Academy Sports here in Pensacola had the racks and tags out for them a couple days ago, but the lights weren't there yet. Guess I'll hafta check back again today...I'll keep ya posted!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to check my local Academy.

Revolver, let us know how much extra bulbs are and how much they charge for shipping.

I just "discovered" this flashlight today in Salem, Oregon, at Sportsmans Warehouse.

I was going to buy a Surefire G2 there, but the Maxfire looked nice & comparable. The price was right too. And, I preferred the tailcap switch vs a twist switch like on the Surefire.

After getting it home, I have to say that it is a nice light! I think that the beam looks better than the store's Surefire. Definitely a good buy.

I'd be interested in seeing if a brighter bulb could be used for those times where a *very* bright light is needed. Similar to putting the 120 lumen bulb in the G2. I know that the housing probably isn't built for the heat, but for a very bright light which might be used for a few minutes at a time, it should be okay.

Sorry, no pics tonight. I was on a long phone call, our rescue group is doing 3 body recoveries, and I had to send pics of another light to a friend.

Having said that, I measured the bulb in the Maxfire and it is 1.1A @ 4.8V (I used a power supply).

I'm wondering about the brightness of these, because if it's comparable to a MN02 bulb... then its not near the brightness of the legend LX or the G2... any more info on these lights please?

What is the 60 lumen bulb rating in a G2? (Volts/amps). That at least gives you the input power. The rest of the difference would probably be in the reflector.

Ocelot, we need pics!

Turt, the G2 is slightly brighter than the E2. The difference you're seeing is the reflector.

Got one last night. P60-sized spot (maybe smaller--going on memory), but brighter, with MN03-like spill. Spill is wider and brighter than my L4's. It throws like my Stinger, which is better than a P60 or P90. (edit:turns out my Stinger's battery was low-it does not throw as far as my Stinger, but has a similar-sized spot, and brighter spill.)
Outstanding beam. Mine has a tighter spot than my adj. LX could tighten down to-my LX was comparable to my E2e.

Oh man, I was in Academy twice since this thread and forgot to look for the Maxfire both times. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif doh! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rant.gif

Not sure if it means a P60 will fit, but a X80 for a SF Commander drops right in. Very bright, but we didn't run it long, not being sure of the voltage.
I'm hoping a P60 will also drop in, so I can use the Pila LA with a 168S, which fits in the battery tube, but barely.
We (Robocop and I) may post some pics of the light, later.

Hmmm..I can't find a pic of this light anywhere. If an X80 lamp fits, maybe it could be powered via a Pila Li-Ion?

I tried the X80 with a 168S, and it worked fine, though not as bright as 2x123. I have no idea about runtime, though.
Here is a pic with an E2e w/KL1, L4, Arc LSH-P w/TSP-2AA, Pelican M6 LED, Tec 40, and Stinger. I didn't realize how big it was until seeing it next to the PM6...

I emailed it to Robocop, so maybe he can get it posted /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon6.gif

ALll right I will try

I like seeing photos of groups of flashlights - especially those with some I know, and some that are new to me.
Thanks for the photo.
