After all of my research on the forum (thanks!), I decided to go with a Nitecore D10 from 4sevens. Got it yesterday and I'm very pleased. Nice size and output, love the UI.

My only question is, can you get in to replace or clean the glass? I have what looks like either a small piece of lint, or imperfection of some kind, on the inside of the glass. Now, it's not a big deal as it doesn't seem to effect anything, so I'm not going to lose sleep, but if it's easy enough to get in there to clean it I just might try.

Thanks to the forum for helping me with the choice!

nice light, i wouldnt worry about the speck personally.
id be more likely to get more dirt in there (or break something) by taking the glass off..

yes you can if u want to, i have removed the bezel from my EX10 (CR123 version of the D10), what u do is use a mouse pad, put your D10 head down and then turn counterclockwise to remove the retaining ring, then the lens, then clean your reflector or lens etc.

I have broken my lens before and i contacted Nitecore who replaced it for free. Great service nitecore!!

Excuse me, Hype. D10 doesn't have a SS bezel like EX10. :p The OP needs to remove the light engine from inside, ie remove the contact ring first, then use needle-nose to unscrew the pill to get to the lens.

To prisoner6, get an idea in removal here. But do so at the risk of voiding warranty.

Don't try to clean it. If I was right, the reflector is very fragile and could be damaged easily.
No matter what, if you have no experience about this, I suggest not to mess it up by yourself for such little problem.
If you want a perfect light, you can always exchange it for another one, 4sevens will take care you -- although I guess you have to pay shipping.

Thanks for the help. It's not a big deal, so I'll just be leaving it. It's certainly not worth the hassle of sending back or possibly messing something up. It still puts out light, and that's what it's for.

Now if I could talk them into a D10 style in AAA.......

The reflector isn't fragile at all, it's a block of aluminum. But you're right, he should send it back if it's isn't right. ;)

whoops, my bad then. i assumed that D10 and EX10 were the same except for cell size.

I should speak more accurately, I think the coating on the reflector is fragile. I read on another forum (Chinese flashlight forum) that many people got their reflector coating damaged when trying to clean it with finger, soft cloth, glasses cloth etc.

Of course I just heard it secondhand, so please correct me if I was wrong.

Piston drive will make a AAA light bigger, almost in AA light size. I don't think that will happen. Actually EZAA and Quark mini are not much bigger than most AAA lights, I would prefer AA for more capacity.

I'm looking hard at the new Quark Minis, just cant decide if I want to do 123 or AA in that.

D10 +clip is great light for EDC.
Iam going with AA mini replacing E01....better form factor for me then 123. Also AA format batteries in any kind of emergency r easier to find and with 14500 it will be just as bright.

It isn't dangerous at all taking out the inwards of a D10, i only killed one light engine (LED cables ripped off) until now and I've opened two lights! :nana:

No joke : Be really carefull if you do it! Today I got a new D10-R2 and I don't know why, but this is my second D10 and the second one I must open to somehow screw in the reflector tighter as both of my lights didn't work fully screwed together, the piston was blocked. :candle:

The R2 works neat now while the piston of the Sunspot (special edition with Q5) still lacks of way and half of the time I screw it fully together the light begins to behave unnormally, changes from high to low, back again, flickers and eventually turns off. Unscrewing and retightening helps, but it's best not to tighten it at all, it works flawless then (but produces the loudest whining I ever heard, R2 is silent). As the Sunspot will be more or less a shelf queen, I don't care too much after I got another light engine with a Q3-5A from a fellow CPFler. The beam looks great now!

May I also sugest that you wipe off all of the original lube and relube with Nyogel? The pistons usually have too much grease and hat grease is sticky. The light works much better after relubing!
