I know it has been mentioned on here a few times, but i just want to verify that it is normal/safe that my new D10 has a "whine" to it.

Just got it in the mail today D10 SP R2. Only makes the noise on Medium. The high output has a little sound like pressurizing air in a tank but only lasts for a second or two. On Medium, it never goes away. I am using a brand new Energizer Ultimate Lithium battery. It is only audible when the light is a few inches from my head, so its not so much annoying as i was concerned that the light may not last too long if the circuitry is being strained in some way. Thanks.

DO NOT PUT THE LIGHT BY YOUR HEAD!!! If it is whining it is a ticking time bomb and could blow your head off!:poof: JK! :D Mine whined some when I first got it too. now it doesn't do it anymore. Or maybe I don't notice it.

All of my D10 and EX10 whine. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. If one does it, it may help ramping up and down or changing modes with the newer versions (which I really don't like).

I guess it depends on the input voltage as well as on the output current (or voltage), perhaps also on the temperature of the circuit.

The Nitecore are not alone, lots of lights do it, it sucks if it gets too loud and manufacturers should pay attention to it, I'm sure it can be avoided, as many lights don't do it!

My D10 Q5 and GDP whines on high when using nimh.
A little less sound on energizer lithium and no sound on 14500.

I've used mine for over a year without problems, it's normal for Nitecore circuit's to whine a little.
I usualy ramp it to high and back down a little bit until the sound fades away. But you cant do that on the SP can you?

My EX10 R2 will whine of a second during ramping but then settle down and stop after a few seconds. Also even during the ramping it must be very near the ear to hear anything.
