Today my new Dereelight DBS V2 3SM R2 and extension tube arrived from FlashCrazy! What a light!!!:twothumbs

I ordered it from FlashCrazy on 12/10 @ 3:51 pm, and it arrived in my mailbox today, 12/12 @ 12:15 pm! I should also mention that he is in California and I'm in western New York State! The package arrived in perfect condition, and was packed extremely well. I put the extension tube on the light, loaded up 2 freshly charged protected Tenergy 18650's and headed to the basement to check it out. What an incredible throw it has! Nice, tight, narrow beam with just a little spill! The picure with the 2 beams is the Fenix T1 on top, and the Dereelight DBS on the bottom. I can't wait until it gets dark out to go try it on the golf course behind me! I bet it will throw 400 - 500 yards without any problem! I sure hope these pictures load OK, and please forgive me for not having the camera speed and aperture settings, I was so excited I forgot:ohgeez:!

It will be interesting to compare it to my Mag-Lite 6D with the triple Malkoff mod in it:naughty:.

Thanks to FlashCrazy for all his help in deciding on the right light, and getting it here so quickly! Great job!!

Sorry, I'm having an awful time posting pictures. This is the best I can do so far.

You have to upload/host your pictures elsewhere, and then post links in your thread, or use the button with the mountains in it to embed the image into your post after uploading them to your host.

Lucky! Your new light sounds ideal.

Dereelight has been on the top of my list for some time now. I'm still considering which pill for the DBS... Lately, thinking wall of light, extension tube and 2 x 18650.

FlashCrazy has been answered all of my questions and I can't thank him enough. He is all right.

Now, if only I could make a decision on just one, only one, not two, new light.

I did get the extension tube from FlashCrazy, and you're right, he is a great guy to deal with! I decided on the Dereelight so that if I wanted to upgrade components I could without having to buy a new light.

What is accomplished with the extension tube and two 18650s - extended run time? Thanks.

I couldn't bring myself to put an extension tube on my DBS V2. I purchased it to be a small, compact thrower! I can't wait until a R3 pill is offered,(maybe Aug/09).Thankx for the beam shots, always appreciated.

For $12.00 i think the extension tube is a good idea for times say a emergency the extra runtime would be worth it although it looks a little ungainly.

I'm hoping to get better with the beamshots, they are hard to capture well with my camera. I really don't mind the extension tube, I have a pretty big hand, and I think it's better for me to carry it with the extension tube on. I'll be looking for the R3 pill as well!

R3 pill? By August 2009 we may have R5's, or S bins, or we may forget about the XR-E all together and move to the XP-E which may throw better than the XR-E. :)

The R3 won't make much difference when compared to the R2. I'm hoping we take a bigger jump in the near future. :)

....AND with the new MC-E emitter (pill), and running on 2 x 18650, you have an output of over 500 lumens for roughly 1.5 hours!!

Awesome.....

I'm not so sure it has even 500 lumens out the front. It maybe around 500 at the emitter. From my testing I'd guess it to be around 400 lumens. Until someone can get one into an IS we won't know for sure, but it falls short of my 630 bulb lumen WF-500 by a decent amount. If you do the 630 bulb lumens - 35% you get around 400 lumens out the front. I'm not sure if there is really that much loss, but if there is, than the DBS MC-E may only be 300-350 out the front lumens. Or my WF-500 with the Lumens Factory 630 bulb lumens bulb is over performing and has over 500 lumens coming out the front. :)

It's still noticeably brighter than the XR-E R2. Dereelight could probably drive the MC-E a bit harder than they are, but if it was put into the CL1H it may over heat too quick at a higher drive current.

Pity the extension tube doesn't come with caped ends so you could use it for spare battery carry, ready for when you need the extra run time,BTW glad you like the DBS great light and very hard to beat IMO

I was thinking the same thing, and earlier guessed around 400 lumens out the front. wbp tested one he just bought from me. He has a 6" Hoffman integrating sphere, and a cutom built 10" sphere. He said he was getting a bit over 500 lumens out the front. Here's his post

I agree that Dereelight isn't driving it as hard as it can be. They're driving each die of the emitter at 525 mA, for a total of 2.1 amps. I think the MC-E can be pushed to 725 mA per die (2.9 amps). Like you mentioned, I imagine they don't drive it to the max due to heat issues... especially for the CL1H version coming out.

I am confused.

Which emitter will produce 400lumens with extension tube?

I read the website but I am still lost.

The MC-E which is now available in the 3SM UI. You don't need the extension tube to get the output - it will take 2 x CR123 or 2 x RCR-123. Just gets more runtime with the extension tube and 2 x 18650!

From Flashcrazy's thread:

DBS models: Smooth reflector included only. Orange peel reflector available below.

DBS V2 w/3SM Cree MC-E M bin, WF tint (OP)

Keukalite,

What is the lumens rating for that flashlight?

Regards, Patric

Hello Patric, good to hear from you!

From what I can gather, my light is rated for around 225 lumens, although it's ability to throw makes it seem higher to my uneducated eye. Here is an interesting sight that gives some data. The Dereelight is almost at the bottom of the table. Thanks for asking!
