I can not find the thread that originally pointed it out, but Dorcy's site shows some coming-in-March-2007 new products, including:
- 41-1642 - LED Module;
- 41-4276 - 3 Watt - 3AAA LED Aluminum Tail Cap Switch Flashlight;
- 41-4295 - 6 Watt - 2 CR123 K2 Luxeon High Performance LED;
- 41-4297 - 6 Watt - 3AAA K2 Flashlight with Battery Indicator

I have contacted Dorcy Canada, and been told that they will not be selling these in Canada.

I have contacted Bright Guy and been told that they will not be selling these.

Am I being teased, or what? I might actually want to BUY one of these!!!!

I wish Dorcy would move away from the 3AAA format.

I've got a MetalGear or two, and they're good lights, but I don't use them anymore. Replacing 3AAA at a time just doesn't make sense when you can get the same light from a 1AA light, in a smaller package.

I'm fairly sure they use 3AAA because it's a quick and easy way to get to 3+volts without using a more costly buck/boost circuit.

Personally, though, I won't buy a 3AAA light again.

The 3AAA configuration is probably going to be around for a while in the price category that the Metal Gear is in. Most of these kinds of lights don't have any sort of regulation circuitry and are cheap to manufacter. Whereas a 1 or 2AA flashlight needs boost/regulation circuitry to drive the LEDs brightly. 3AAAs more or less produce enough current to run Luxeons without circuitry (although there's much debate about how well they do it). I have several Metal Gears myself and I think they're excellent flashlights. But they designed it to be inexpensive and have decent battery life. The 1W Luxeon in it is a bit underdriven. I have swapped out the 1W Luxeons in mines with Cree XR-E and SSCP4 LEDs, removed the 1ohm resistors and now I have some really bright Metal Gears...

As for retail distribution of their flashlights, it seems spotty at best here in the US. I see their lights at Target and Walfart all the time, but they never seem to change the models that are carried. You may have to do some serious looking around for these new Dorcy models...

For most CPF LED fans, Luxeon-based lights have left the radar screen; most are now eyeing Cree or Seoul-based lights. Almost 100% boost in output level for the same power is nothing to sniff at.

So, you've surveyed that, have you....

I realize that Cree is coming up, fast and hard, but they may still be a bit too sofistimicated for my partners.

Someone else pointed out that Dorcy was bringing these out, so when I checked it out and saw that they were coming, I was foolishly under the misunderstanding that Dorcy might actually want to SELL one of each of these products.

Being the naive kind of wall-flower that I am, I timidly sought out how to humbly proffer my scheckles to Dorcy in exchange for the privilege of possibly owning such devices, but all for nought!

Mores the pity!

Actually what is behind them not wanting to sell their newest products in Canada?

Do they think that Canadians living in their igloos are not sophisticated enough for their new and advanced products?:lolsign: Or perhaps owning some new sophisticated LED lights might propose a strategic military threat to .......?:xyxgun:

They might just be resentful of Tim Horton's not willing to share it's secrete to great tasting and addictive coffee. >...........Psssssssst Dorcy they add nicotine to it:sold:. Now send us the dam lights.

Maybe these new lights will show up @ Home Hardware, under their Reactor name? All the current "Reactor" lights are just rebranded Dorcy's. There might be hope for us Canadians yet!

The 2x CR123 light still looks very cool to me. And u can always mod it with an CR-E or P4 anyways :)

Im waiting to get that as soon as an online store carrier em.

I would guess that it have more to do with the cost of doing international business than thumb nosing. It may be related to a tax, branding issue or fractional marketing.

Again, just a guess.

Re-branding as Reactor and selling via Home Hardware: I can see that, and hopefully it will occur.

Bright-Guy not handling: that don't make no sense, for as far as I know, they are USA based.

Dorcy's new lights not being the most-up-to-date: well...I got nothin'!

C'mon now, everybody knows that Canada is ok. When we went to war in Afghanistan, they lent us their tank.

41-4295 - 6 Watt - 2 CR123 K2 Luxeon High Performance LED, I saw that model at Sears in my area yesterday. It's a pretty mean looking little dude. Its aluminum with a spikey rubber tread in places on it. I almost bought it, but it was 40 bucks for a Dorcy.

I have had good luck finding otherwise hard-to-find Dorcys on eBay. Doing an eBay search with the words DORCY LED will give you some decent choices.

I was poking around this thread and wonder if anyone has sampled any of the new Dorcy luxeons in the 1-AAA and 1-AA models? According to their website these new versions are available now and have some type of focusing lens....from the photo it looks to be some form of optic.

I have checked all the normal stores in my area and come up empty.....any new news on the new Dorcy lights yet?

I am also interested in that 1AAA 1W flashlight that they have. Anyone know where I can get one and for how much?
