I got a 6" starrett level for 50 bucks. Seems to be in decent shape so I took it up 6 storys to our parking garage roof to check how "level" things are up there. I was really not expecting anything on the building to be very level given the earthquakes in socal.
Here is the aluminum beam in the stairway:
Considering I am 6 stories up on the roof of a parking garage on a welded stairway, this is not too bad
Checking how the calibration was, I put it on the end of the beam and then reversed it.
First measurement:
Turned the level around to see if there is any difference:
All and all, I am pretty happy with it. These things really are sensitive. I put my finger on it barely touching and the warmth of my finger causes the bubble to move after a few seconds. Took my finger off and after a bit it returned. Looking forward to properly leveling the lathe.
On a final note, whoever built the parking structure deserves a raise!
