I like the 6P and similar format Surefires a lot because they are just so modular and expandable. You can build some incredible things with them. I made one that puts more than 500 lumens out the front but only for a short time. By swapping batteries and the lamp I can make the same light very dim but it will run for weeks. Last night I hunted for scorpions in the woods with a 6P using a UV lamp. Next weekend I might take it swimming while hunting fossils in the river. If you decide you want a 3 cell light instead of a 2 cell light that's a $20 upgrade.

The Surefire 6P will give you so many upgrade options your head will hurt:laughing::crackup:
Get the 6P incandescent; usually around $60 or less new. Then go to Deal Extreme and you could purchase Cree R2's with single or multi-modes for around $10 delivered. They even have the MC-E P60 quad emitter for $23 delivered and it should give you over 300 lumens of light.
4 Quad LED (P7 or MC-E LED)= a wall of light. Like turning on a lightbulb in you home. Light will be more equally distributed 360 degrees in front of you, but will be limited to 75 to 100 yards. Lumens typically are 300 to 700 out the front, but can appear less bright because the beam is not concentrated as much...
Cree single LED emitters= most of the light emitted will be available in the center with a concentrated beam. At 100 yards the beam is noticeably brighter than quad emitters. Lumens typically are 150 to 240 out the front.
