New Fenix LD05

Re: Fenix LD05

Would you choose this over Preon II?

Hm, difficult question!

If I wanted 60 Lumen less and steel instead of titanium, pay 95 cent more, it would be interesting!

There could be one real reason though : The XPE should have more throw than the XPG. Well, I like it floodier and 160 Lumen should be floodier!!! :nana:

Remember, Fenix lumen is not OTF. Might be loosing more than 60 lumen.

lol uhh im sorry im either stupid or not seeing it or soemthing, but wheres the specs on the fenix light?

hmmmm my self i think i'll go with the preon kit, because u get more for your money, two bodies. and to tails...and two clips. and 160 OTF lumens vs 100 lumens of whatever it is, still is brighter...

and the 10 yr warrenty..how can we not love that?

the preon pretty clearly seems like a better deal assuming it lives up to its specs and assumed quality, simply put its choosing between an xp-e r2 and an xp-g r5 for the same price right?

Now I think the real fight will be between the preon I and the illuminaTI. Almost the same price and same emitters. Personally I like the designs for the illuminati better, it looks more like a flashlight and less like lipstick, but it will all come down to performance in the end.

The preon also sounds like the med and low modes might be a little too close together.....

Now I'm reviving an old topic... :D I've been wondering what penlight to get... and since my experience with th 4sevens newest penlight wasn't that good and I also saw lots of reviews on YT complaining about some issues with the Preon 2... I decided on a Fenix LD05. It should come here today. It seems not to be manufactured anymore, I've had difficulty finding it, but finally I did.

So, are there any long-term users who could share their experience with this flashlight? I've always liked Fenix and they seem to be quite tough... I'm not gentle at all towards my lights. I hope the penlight survives my treatment, too (lots of dropping)

N_N_R,

The quality and quantity of light emitted by the Fenix LD05 I had were very good. However, I found the flashlight heavier and longer than my other penlights so it was more troublesome to carry. The pocket clip was positioned far from the bezel so the light was too long to clip inside some of my shirt pockets.

The pushbutton switch occasionally malfunctioned. The light was smooth and slippery so it slipped through my hand when I pressed the tail switch. That was annoying.

I gave the light away to a family member.

I prefer the Streamlight Protac 2AAA and Pelican 1920 penlights.

Hey, thanks for the wonderful feedback as well as the picture :) Yep, I got mine, it kinda ISSS too big for a penlight, lol. So far I like it, but I've had it for just half a day, after all... It isn't slippery for me, which I found odd, but cool in the same time. I like that the diameter is the same throughout the whole length and it's not tapered or broader towards the end...

But yeah, the clip does seem to need some really deep pockets. Also, the clip looks a little small/narrow for the diameter of the light in general... will see how it performs.

I have a Preon 2 and it suits all my needs. I think the preon is waaaay lighter than the fenix as well.

Yep, perhaps the Preon is more penlight-y light than the LD05... but I couldn't forget all the clicky & clipy problems of hte Preons I saw on YouTUbe.

Btw.... why is my LD05 .... kinda "buzzing"? I mean, there's some weird sound on low & med. I read somewhere that this was done by the Preon, actually, but I didn't read a lot about that...

Please, have a look at this picture - this is hte head of my LD05, but it doesn't look quite right in the centre. Has it corroded or something? Should I worry about it? The light is brand new, a few days old, it was packed properly and all. It works without any problems, but this kinda rusty look there worries me. Thanks

Looks like it's corroded. Try cleaning it with a q-tip and some alcohol.

I have my LD05 right here coincidentally. The (gold?) plating is a little worn off at the connection like yours from pressing against the positive battery terminal on mine. It's not brown at all though. Yours must be a slighly corroded there. It doesn't look bad though.

The LD05 has such a nice tail clicky. Feels so professional with the polished steel cap over the clicky. I like the no memory and settings spacing: Medium, Low (3 lumens), High (100 lumens).
