You need to put the unit of measurement after your advertized distance of: with an amazing 1,574 max beam distance.

It must be Feet,,,,,,not meters!,,,,,480 meters in the specs!

Devils advocate again!

Why would you want a flashlight that takes 8 X AA Batteries w/ 1000L and 480m throw when there are some[M2X] that can do that w/ 1 X 18650 and numerous ones that are 2 X 18650 and they are more compact???

For me, the answer would be that I can get a freight car load of AAs for small money ($4 for 24 at Home Depot). When the zombies come, my 18650s will be the first to go. Then I'll run out of CR123As and switch to AA lights. When my 14500s and Eneloops bite the dust, I'll be off to the fridge for a few dozen alkalines.

Of course, once you've got your AA lights for the apocalypse, you can branch out into 1x and 2x 18650s, as you say :)

I'll second that. This is why my old-model TK41 won't be getting sold off. I particularly appreciate the fact that it'll run on 4 AAs in a pinch, since the 8 AAs are in 2 parallel sets of 4. Half the runtime is better than no runtime :)

I also have a custom Convoy X3 on order, which I plan to run 18650s in, with a usable fallback to 3 AAs and an option to upgrade to 26650s later if I feel the need. I wish more manufacturers would offer that kind of versatility!

Safer batteries

Maybe true but not enough to make me want it!

Most of my lights are modded and I have had zero problems w/ my IMR[another safer chemistry], ICR ect. batteries.

As long as you use QUALITY 18650's,[Panasonic/Samsung/Sanyo/LG/Orbtronic ect] and maintain/monitor them [voltages] which I always do, there is really nothing to worry about!;)

You will never enjoy a high output light w/ AA's!! No AA light is going to put out a few thousand lumens and produce 300Kcd/400Kcd/500Kcd ect.

To each his own.

Absolutely! Enjoy! We all are willing to assume different amounts of perceived risk in any endeavor.

Oops... I forgot what thread I was in when I mentioned Zebralight. I do prefer AA to li ion for safety sake so I do like tk41 setup. I also have some 1 x 18660 flashlights but I feel safer handing the Fenix with AA to family members unfamiliar with li ion safety rules and dangers.
