Hi there,

I recently found a four LED flashlight at Pathmark, only
six dollars (made in china).
It's not bad, but i was thinking of taking the head off
to modify it or use the head on another light.
Problem is, it looks like the head is glued on.
I dont want to ruin the thing.
Any ideas?

Take care,
Al

Hi Al,

Maybe you could boil it? Or freeze it?

It's really dependent upon the type of glue it's using. Some glues get really soft when boiled and some get really brittle in freezing temps. Possibly, if you freeze it, then drop it in boiling water, the thermal differences could go to work.

On the other hand, it may be using a glue like the plastic model-making glue that fuses the plastic together. If that's the case, then you may be SOL.

Another option could be looking for a new point to saw it off where you could easily rejoin it. Or try pushing the optics through from the bottom.

Hi pb,

Im a little afraid to try boiling because the lens is
plastic. The body and head is aluminum though.

Take care,
Al

Ah...

Ok. That simplifies matters. I was assuming that the whole light was plastic.

Why not just grab on tight with some strap wrenches and apply torque as needed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I second the strap wrench idea...if you don't have any strap wrenches, go pick up a couple, they are relatively cheap, and you'll find uses for them a few times a year, at the very least.
