Hello all,
Been a long time lurker. Figured I should finally join. Courtesy of Uncle Sam (and being nice to the supply guys) I have aquired several flashlights while deployed(National Guard). IIn addition to my maglite and minimaglite, I also own a surefire 6P, surefire G2Z, sure U2 Ultra, surefire Kroma-milspec, and a gerber Recon-M. While I like them all, My two favorites are the Kroma and Recon. I will get the most use out of these two. I remember a time when I was active Army, you were highspeed if you had a minimaglite! Now nore more fiddling with different colored lenses.
I also remember I slightly improved those old 90 degree bent military flashlights. In the PX they sold halogen replacement bulbs that were slightly brighter. Also, I installed lithium batteries. Actuall D cell 1.5volt lithium batteries. They were expensive! But it made the flashlight so much lighter! And the halogen bulb improved slighty the light output even with the red lens. But the weight savings were the best improvement. I remember my buddy asked to use my light real quick. I tossed it to him and he laughed and said hey you have no batteries in it. I told yep they are in there, just turn it on.
He didn't believe me, those batteries were just so light! Finally he turned it on and said what the hell. Told him they were lithium batteries. He was amazed. Speaking of which, Since then, I never saw those batteries again. They were purchased at the PX and I think they might have been Energizers? Guess do to cost, they never caught on as I cannot even find them on the internet, or that they even ever existed. I see 3 volt d cell size ones but I know they made 1.5 ones at one time. This was back in the early 1990's Anyone recall them at all?
Sorry for the rambling, I am happy to be here. Oh I cannot wait to get home. Less than a week. Gonna buy a couple of those fenix keycahin lights for me and the wife for EDC.
Oh bought a AE 24W powerlight for $200 dollars here brand new! The wife said $200 for a flashlight!?! LOL
