Just thought I'd share what I've assembled after researching with the good ol' search function on this site.

It's a 3x18650 Leef Body using AW 2600 mAh 18650 cells, a Surefire KT1/2 head, fivemega bi-pin holder running a WA1185, and is topped off with an AW soft starter in a Z41 tailcap. The lanyard is a Surefire bezel mount that I switched over to green paracord. I'm pretty happy with my first try! I'm glad this site is out there. lovecpf

Nice light! You made some great choices for sure. It should last you a lifetime...or until you sell it to me for much less than it cost you to build :naughty:

Nice build!! It took me a while after being out on the forum to get into doing the legos. The SF/Leef combos are just awesome IMO. I have the KT1/Leef 2x18650 combo running a WA1111 lamp. I love the beam pattern with nice throw and huge spill area this turbo head produces. I'm also using a 3 mode AW soft-start switch for more flexibility and runtime. I've also got one of the SS bezels for the KT1 from NetKidz on the way to protect the bezel in case of a drop. Here's a pic of mine (I don't have the SW01 on it anymore).

Great combo, ellum68! I have the exact same thing in black + a black leef grip + NetKidz SS bezel + SureFire FM24. Instead of the wa1185 lamp, I'm using LumensFactory's HO-M6R lamp. Great output and great runtime. I highly recommend it! :twothumbs

Very nice light, ellum68, and that's an excellent photo of it.

When I first compared a KT1 head to a KT4 (the M6/M3T turbohead) the KT1 looked very shallow and I didn't think it would throw anywhere near as well. But it surprised me - it throws very well indeed, and it's hard to tell the difference. The KT1 is a great head.

Enjoy your new light, I like it :twothumbs

Will the KT1 be able to hold MN15 too or only the KT2 will hold it?

Where can you get Leef those days?

Is it the natural color?

Thanks

The KT1 and KT2 are exactly the same besides the lamp that it comes with from Surefire. The KT1 comes with a 6Volt lamp (N1) and the KT2 comes with a 9Volt lamp (MN15). You can purchase Leef bodies at www.lighthound.com . ellum's setup is HA natural in color, but Leef also produces black bodies.

That is a very nice looking light from just about any angle. It looks pretty simple on the outside, but I can only imagine what kind of output that must have.
How do the 18650s handle the load? 3+ amps is towards the higher range of LiCo cells.

Also, wouldn't the 1185 have more output than the HO-M6R? Is the filament small enough to give it more throw than the 1185?

The new AW 18650 2600 mAh can handle 5A safely. I'd be more concerned about instaflashing the 1185...

I don't have an WA1185 here to compare, but I can tell you that the HO-M6R easily out throws any stock SureFire lamp assembly. And it's pretty darn economical to boot. (especially compared to the MN16/21/61 and IMR-M3T)

Well if the HO-M6R is really 700 lumens, then it will probably not be as bright as the 1185. However, they will probably have a slightly different beam pattern, so it might be hard to tell.

WOW! So many nice comments, thank you! :)

Looks like all the questions that have been asked have been answered by others except Land and part of Mjolnir's....

I do have an HO-M6R assembly as well that I use in my 3x17670 M6. I haven't actually compared the two back to back outside, but did bounce each off the ceiling the first night. There is a noticeable difference in favor of the 1185. I will be able to compare them more once I get my M6 back from Surefire (lanyard broke and it got dinged). The HO-M6R is still a great performing well made lamp however. I have not had any issues with instaflash. This is a big reason for my getting the AW soft starter. I also use the Pila IBC to charge my batteries and have installed them shortly after charging without incident.

Oh, and as for Lane's question... I did get the body, batteries, and soft starter from Lighthound. That's a wonderful place to deal with!

I only wonder what to build next. Maybe something spotlight based.

Output is probably alot less than the 1185. The HO-M6R's strongest selling point is throw/runtime, not sheer power.
