Hi all,

Hopefully one of you knowledgeable people can recommend me a suitable light as I have unfortunately gone and lost my Fenix L2d.

Having had a look around the forums I'm pretty confused and would appreciate some advice.

It will be used for searching vehicles, buildings & land but also close range when filling in paperwork etc.

Basically the absolute must-have's are as follows:

Powered by 2xAA's
At least 2 brightness modes (high & low) to use in different circs
Water/shock resistant (will be out in the rain etc)
Must have a clip so I don't lose it again!
A decent output in max mode, think my L2d was around 180 lumens.

Bonuses would be:
Strobe feature
3 or more brightness modes
Decent battery life
Yellow casing so it's easily found if dropped
Adjustable focus (are there any disadvantages to having this?)

I'm not looking to spend loads of money, in the region of £30 ($50) is my limit but the cheaper the better! (so long as it's reasonably good quality)

Thanks in advance for any advice, it's greatly appreciated.

The Fenix TK20 could work if you don't mind a clunkier 2 AA light and just 2 modes. The one linked has a yellow grip (8% off coupon is "CPF8") but no clip. Very few lights have adjustable focus. If you are looking for adjustable focus that has a usable beam (non ringy) in "flood" mode, look to loose spill.

The Quark AA^2 tactical could be a good choice, but it's still above your price range after the 8% coupon.

The iTP C8T could work for you, but it doesn't have a clip and I'm not sure how well the adjustable modes will work if you are in a sticky situation. 6% off coupon is "CPFuser"

A lanyard could work for you. Either one attached to your hand when you use the light, or a long and elastic one hooked to your belt so you won't loose it. Clips can let go and people have lost lights clipped to their belt or pockets.

:welcome:

+1 TK20. That's about the only one i know with a yellow body. And with the 8% "CPF8" coupon at 4sevens, it comes to $48.90.

I'd think about investing a bit more if its a work light, look at the Jetbeam Jet I EX v2, its way out of your budget at $72 but its tough and very versatile as you can individually program each of its 3 modes for what you need, 1st mode: max for searching large areas, 2nd mode: minimum for doing paperwork, 3rd mode: max strobe etc etc.

Take a look at this 2xAA roundup for some reviews.

For a more budget option with pretty decent build, look at the Romisen RC N3 II Q5, 2xAA or 1xCR123/RCR123 with 2 modes. I had one of these and gave it to my friend's husband who needed a decent light (started new job in trucking). available at shiningbeam use "CPFuser" for a discount.

Good luck with your search. Oh, one more thing, get a backup light. One of the most important things to have. Maybe an Akoray K106 (1xAA) from KD or DX. I own one from KD and it can be programmed too.

And last but not least, :welcome: and hold on to your wallet.
