Maybe too early to ask, but looking at the new 09 Surefire catalog I see the M3L Combatlight is controlled by pressing the switch for the two different levels of light. First press for low and pressing further for high. Is that brand new for Surefire? Page 18 on the Tactical Products paper catalog.

Yes, it seems to work like the L1, L2, A2. Yet the head is also suppose to work as an upgrade to your existing M3 and similar weaponlights. So I'm wondering exactly how it works.

speculation:

the circuit in the M3L head operates based on full contact of tailcap or partial contact via resistors. If resistor is engaged, then the head gives low output. If fully engaged, full output. SO it could still be put on an M3/M3T light as a single level light, since if one completes the circuit on an A2/L1/L2 it acts just like a single level light.

I have a feeling that the low and high will be controlled via the circuit board in the head :(. Akin to the most recent 2-level surefires: e1b, kx2, & e2dl. I say this because according to the pictures in the 2009 catalog, the m3 body and tailcap has not changed at all in outter appearance. It would be alot easier and more realistic for surefire to have the switching in the head, than to create a new 2-level switch for the Z41 tailcap.

With that said, I hope I'm wrong as I love my A2, L1 and modified Z41 with McC2S 2-level switch on my L6. :D
