When doing some price checking for C & D size LSD NiMH batteries, I saw a pre-order availability notice for new Imedion C & D LSD cells from Maha, with capacities comparable to the other quality makes available.

There are also two different "9 volt" style LSD batteries, with nominal 9.6V or 8.4V output.

It will be fascinating to see if these new Imedions maintain the good characteristics of the smaller formats and how the new batteries compare to the established quality C & D LSD cells.

I wonder if Sanyo will update its offerings in this space, both in terms of availability and in capacity.

- Syncytial.

Yes, the new batteries have just been released last week and we received our first shipment of Imedion C, D & 9V batteries yesterday. Rated capacities & info links are as follows:

Imedion D - 9500mAh
Imedion C - 5000mAh
Imedion 9V (9.6V) - 230mAh

Interestingly, the C & 9V batteries have exactly the same capacity ratings as their standard PowerEx NiMH counterparts, which is a bit unusual for an LSD battery.

There's also an 8.4V version of the 9V which has a 250mAh capacity, but most people seem to be going for the 9.6V for better high power performance in things like wireless mics & paintball hoppers. To be honest, the math doesn't quite make sense to me for the 8.4V version. PowerEx's non-LSD 9V provides 300mAh in the 8.4V version, so I can understand how you could get significantly longer battery life using that battery in low-voltage situations like medical equipment & such vs. using the 9.6V. At only 250mAh for the 8.4V Imedion though, the energy density is actually *lower* than the 9.6V. On the other hand, these low-voltage uses are probably ideal for an LSD battery. Any thoughts?

Not much interest in these sizes I guess.

The non LSD Powerex D sizes I have say 11,000 mAh typical - the Imedions say 9500 mAh (8600 min)
The non LSD Powerex C sizes I have say 5,000 mAh typical - the Imedions say 5000 mAh (4200 min)

Agree the math looks a little funky and I don't have C9000 charger to run the tests. The D has just over 2x the mAh as the C if you use typical and min values. Both LSD and non LSD C and D's are made in the Taiwan factory (AA and AA made in Japan I think - probably a bit better quality?).

Haven't tried any of the 9 v yet. Definitely on my list. I notice the min ratings on the Imedion are 210 and 230 mAh. The math still doesn't work there.

For use in a portable amp, the 8.4V is more than enough. Now I use Tenergy 9V 250mAh (not that great) and Pansan 250mAh (better).

I've seen the 8.4 V Imedions test out on a multimeter at just over 9.0 V. The 9.6 V is for like paintball hoppers and some digital cameras that don't run well on the lower voltages (according to their website).

Probably going with the 8.4 V Imedion for my multimeter, LAN cable tester and that type of stuff. I want an LSD battery - but I don't need the extra volts. They'd probably do more harm than good in those devices and many others.
