So I got an email notification that Malkoff is making a Wildcat 18650 now. Is the search here failing me or does no one have this yet?

Welcome back WH.
I saw the email this morning, there's been a bit of talk about it, but I don't think anyone that has one has posted about it. Wonder if it comes in neutral or cool?

Is it me, or are the Wildcats going backwards in brightness each generation? I'm seeing the new Wildcat as being listed as 1050 OTF Lumens for the cool version. Wasn't V6 more than that?

Iz was different emitter with yellow-green corona and more powerfull (6V).
New emitter is XPL (3V) which can be found in every chinese flashlight but Gene picked special bins and these don't have rainbow in the beam like V6

It appears to me that virtually everything about the new one, tint aside, is a downgrade versus the previous.

Thanks Peter....same ole forum I see not ONE notification email on the replies. :sigh:

I got one (4,000K). It's classic Malkoff quality. But, it's essentially a version 6 Wildcat, only with less heat; maybe because of less battery and a larger head to sink the heat. I have a 4,000K version 6, and the beams pretty much look the same. Aesthetically, I don't like the large heads on the MD2, or MD3 body for that matter. It's looks "unbalanced". Just my opinion. And in the case of the MD2, it could possibly be unbalanced, falling out of belt loop perhaps.

I also have two version 4's (warm and cool), one version 5 (neutral) and the version 6. I much prefer versions 4 and 5 for their intended uses. Need to change a tire, work under the hood, or sweep an area for a lost object? Version 5 all the way. Need a little more reach with ample peripheral awareness, version 4.

IMHO, I think the recent Wildcats are an answer to a problem that doesn't exist. BTW, where is the Malkoff "sub-section"? The 'Malkoff Junkie' threads are closed.

I have a cool Hound Dog 18650 and a neutral one. I only buy single cell lights now...so I've been wanting a Wildcat 18650 for a few years! So that's the problem this is an answer to!

Go for it. The 18650 Wildcat is a good light. It's just not much different than the others.

Finally Someone with a V6 chimes in. So in your opinion the new WC is very close to the version 6?

I love the V6, that power hungry woods and warehouse lighter. Cars coming at me when road walking actually slow down and move waaay over. Love the warm V6 in an MD3 with 2 18500 IMR's. Needs a Hilo ring though to conserve power...
