Hello all...brand new member here. I've been lurking around for the last few weeks and have started to become a flashaholic. In just the last month, I've purchased a Streamlight Polytac LED, a Fenix LD15, and a Nitecore D10 SP. I've definitely caught the bug!

I have recently decided I would like to have a serious dedicated "thrower" flashlight. At this point the light in my collection with the best throw is a Surefire E2D LED Defender (the older 120 lumen model). I would really like something that is dedicated to throwing a tight spot a good distance (useable to at least 200 meters). My budget would be under $150. Preferably, I'd like to stay under $100.

In my limited research so far, I've discovered lights such as the Tiablo A10-G, the Jetbeam RRT-1, and a few others. But my local sporting goods store has the Streamlight Super Tac for around $60. I know it's only rated at 135 lumens (compared to 240 for the Jetbeam), but I've heard good things about this light. In all my searching however, I have not heard anyone compare it to more expensive throwers like the Tiablo and Jetbeam. Will it out-throw my Surefire E2D LED?

Can anyone tell me whether or not it even comes close to the throw capability of more expensive lights? What is the practical useable distance of the Super Tac? Jetbeam says their RRT-1 will reach 500+ yards. Can anyone verify this with real world experience?

I really like everything about the Jetbeam except the price, especially for a light I would only occasionally use in rural settings to spot critters at a distance, and to impress friends and family, of course. :)

$60 for the Streamlight Super Tac sounds a whole lot better, but if it doesn't even touch the throwability of lights that are in the $150 range, I might not want it.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Solarforce Masterpiece Pro-1. $60 under your budget and beats pretty much everything non-aspheric except the A-10 (which it matches). It throws a nice tight spot and with a lens replacement (only a few bucks) it can over 50000 lux on the hotspot.

You can use the coupon code "cpfjet" at bugoutgearusa.com for %20 off if it helps the price on the Jetbeams.

You can find the RRT-1 for < $100 new with some searching. It does not throw 500 yards. It is a great thrower but at 500 yards you may see a little light but it is pretty useless. 300 yards is great and 400 is ok. 500 is pretty much marketing hype.

Great, thanks. I'll check that one out.

That does help a little, and I really do like everything about the RRT-1.

That's kind of what I figured. I've heard a few people talking about the Streamlight Super Tac easily handling 200-300 yards. Does anyone have first hand experience with the Super Tac? I have had very good luck with Streamlight LEDs and I already own 3 (TLR-1, Microstream, Polytac LED). If I knew that the Super Tac would far out-throw my only other impressive thrower (Surefire E2DL) I'd say, "good enough."

Calling any and all Streamlight Super Tac owners that can help compare this light's throw capability to much more expensive lights like the Jetbeam RRT-1 or Tiablo A10-G. Can this $65 Streamlight compete? Will it out-throw a stock Surefire E2DL (120 lumen)?
