Just purchased a new nightstar CS2 for approximately $20 at REI in Phoenix. This model is transparent green. This is the smaller model in the Nightstar series of shake lights from AIT.
The size is the same as previous CS2 versions. There are 2 differences vs. the older model: the switch is the same as the older larger model and the brightness is about double [non-scientific analysis], everything else being equal and the tint is whiter. So the output of this model is comparable to the previous larger model. The switch on the older CS2 was a knob, the switch on the new model slides. The new model is still just as waterproof, the switch is still magnetic and it is still completely sealed from the elements as before.
I would say that this is a substantial improvement in terms of light output to weight ratio. Of course, shake lights are never particularly bright and may be of limited usefulness in many situtations. Nonetheless, I hope this information is useful.
