New HID flashlight from Schulzendorf:

yf01021-.jpg

Length: 180 mm, OD: 42 mm, weight: 555 g
10 watt HID lamp, 6° beam
Rechargeable NiMh batteries with 12 V and 1800 mAh

The price .... 499 Euro! ($630) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/faint.gif

Found at Globetrotter.

... I saw it as well in the newsletter from
Globtrotter. But it is the same with the "old"
Schulzendorf Flashlights they sold a year ago or
so. Few to nothing information about the Company
or technical data about the light. I think
Kiessling owns a Alpa1 ...

Cheers
Ralf

Lupine is working on a small HID torch, with a Li-Ion battery I think. Probably even more expensive, but if it is the same quality as their bike lights, I'd rather wait for that. Read some rather unfavorable comments about the Schulzendorf LED lights.

I own a Schulzendorf Alpha1 and a Gamma1 and they are very good lights but to expensive. What really infuriates me is that I do not know poop about the manufacturer, globetrotter is blocking everything and they do not seem to have an internet presence.

Lupine on he other hand is a first rate company, but their customer relations suck; I tried to contact them twice about this HID torch under development and didn't even get an auto-reply ... bummer.

Who will be the guinea pig here? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Globetrotter doesn't manufacture themselves. It's the same with their "Four Seasons" brand, they buy bulk from OEM manufacturers and have their label put on it. I suppose Globetrotter either has an exclusive deal with Schulzendorf, or it is just a brand created by a major company for a specific line of flashlights that are exclusive to Globetrotter.

I have a friend at Globetrotter and try to let him get one "for the shop to look at". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I wrote him an email asking, keep your fingers crossed.

The Lupine HID lights are very interesting, especially since they somehow tuned the WelchAllyn balast and bulb to produce 900lm. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif Their balast also looks very slim and small.

They also claim to have a faster startuptime compared to the original balast. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

K-T can they really tune it to produce 900lm? the stock one only does 500lm, 900lm is a big boost. i figured these guys were all using solarc lamps.

well ... I will not buy a €500 light from a manufacturer I don't know, even if their previous lights were a high quality offer.
In Lupine I trust more, even if their CS is non-existant or does not like me very much at least.

Kiessling I go with you. I found their LED lights
interesting as well. but with so few (close to
nothing) info about the manufacturer ...

I'd like to have a HID Light as well, but for that
price ... Maybe I manage to mod one of my Mags for
that. But at the moment I haven't any clue about
HID except, that there are a lot of dive lights
out there ...

Cheers

@bernhard: i also dislike the e-mail cantact and the forum of lupine. but if you contact them on the phone they are willing to help and very friendly. e.g. i sent my spe-lu in because one led wasn't as bright as the others. they replaced it fast and naturally for free. i was even able to upgrade to the newer dimmable switch for small money.
great service (on the phone!)!

Asked about their HID torch on the Lupine forum, and got a reply straightaway. They ARE working on it, and it should be smaller, brighter and with more runtime (that probably means Li-Ion or 123). Didn't say anything about price. I haven't really followed their forum lately, but when I did, I thought it was quite good. Will be trying out their CS presently (my Spe-Lu has a broken cable, I'm afraid).

I posted in march 03 [ QUOTE ]
They think about making (hand-) flashlights. they'll bring out (sorry link is only available in german) a metal-halide hand lamp with rechargable li-ion akku 2 ah and 1 hour runtime in fall. (it will include the complete technique of the lupine edison).

the link is broken since lupine installed a new forum.

sorry bernhard, i don't have any further info.

well ... no problem ... we'll just have to wait and see. That's not too bad since I am a bit broke right now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ...
Thanx for the info!

They better keep the secret of the price a little longer private. Otherwise all potential customers will die before the release by a heart attack. I expect the price te be quite high as all their other products...

Nevertheless I think I will buy one if it is the same quality as my Lupine headlight... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I will be able to view one of the Schulzedorf HID's in about two weeks, will keep you guys updated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
