New Streamlights

Streamlight is updating, finally, the twin-task series to be all led. Outputs/runtimes vary by battery source, with 1x123, 2x123, 3AA and 3C variations. Besides replacing the incan lamp with a modern led, they seem to have upgraded the 5mm nichias as well, judging by the lumen outputs.



SL also put next gen C4 leds into the Scorpion, Nightfighter, Supertac and TL-2. All of these have identical lumen outputs and runtimes (200/2.5hr), so it seems the led/circuit combo would be the same. They each have a low mode of 10 lumens as well.



A Polytac 90 degree anglehead is also new, with 2 modes.



These new lights seem interesting; I especially like the 3C for it's feel and build quality. These were fun lights back in the day, and now maybe all over again.

Just received my new yellow Streamlight Poly Tac 90 from SWPS for $43.15 plus S+H. I am a fan of Streamlight and currently have the AA Survivor. This new PT90 is spectacular as it is compact, lightweight and has great runtime and output specs for my needs.
When I put the two supplied CR123A cells in and tried to screw on the end cap, the end cap spring partially stopped the cap from closing all the way. After a few tries, I was able to get it all the way on. Now time to turn on the light and see the results. I got nothing! I rechecked the insertion polarity - positive first as instructed. Then I tried the switch again, (this switch has no clicky action) with no results. Then I checked the cells for voltage with and without about a 2 ohm load - everything was nominal. Now I tried a pair of competitor cells (S""""""e) with no light output.
I noticed that none of the cells would drop in freely to the end of the battery compartment. Upon closer inspection I saw that the negative contact strip inside the battery compartment was bowed slightly. To try and fix this I gently crammed a cell all the way home with a plastic screwdriver handle.
Now the light turned on and cycled through all three modes high, low and strobe.
Because this light features momentary capability, the switching convention is hard for me to get used to. It seems overly complicated.
This light feels very well built and has significant weight in the head. When looking into the battery compartment, I can see large milled aluminum surfaces which are most likely part or a big heatsink/lampholder assembly. The Poly Tac 90 is so neet that I would have kept it even if it did not light up!

Someone please post up some of your personal pics of that Polytac 90! That is a really cool little light.

I more I read about it, the more that I want one.. :)

I have some home photos on my computer, but I don't know how to put em in here so they are viewable, sorry. I suggest you check the Streamlight site for photos and maybe order one for yourself. This light is very well made with all stainless exterior hardware with the exception of the aluminum body of the torsion gate carabiner clip.

I really liked the form factor of my old 3C Twin Tasks. The release of the new all led models has me thinking of who to "gift" my old pair of lights to, and get myself at least one of the new models.

OK, I think I may have figured out how to share pictures. I you see these, there are two beamshots from about 4 feet. Although it is not very evident, there are two distinct bands of brightness around the center hot spot.
