I just spotted a 2D Taskforce plastic light with a cree LED (XRE I believe) listed as "53 lumens" output at Lowes today for $13. This is a yellow "rough type" plastic light. They also had a 2AA version but it was only 15 lumens and had some unknown LED in it (probably a half watt smd type). 53 lumens isn't a huge amount but in a tough looking plastic light it probably runs for days off 2D cells and is lighter than an Aluminum light.

Thanks for the tip, Lynx. I went to Lowe's today for birdseed, but didn't walk down to the light shelves (Yes, I'm red-faced with shame). Might be nice to have at least one 2D LED in the stable.

I was tempted, but don't even use my converted 2D rayovac roughneck LED light or I would have been tempted. You have to look hard because they look about the same as a standard rough duty plastic yellow 2D incan and in fact these were just below plastic yellow incan lights on the shelves by the exits of the store here. Too bad they only give you 2 heavy duty D cells with it though.

I am assuming it is this one at lowes that you saw, not bad for the price if you need a cheap and decent LED torch. I wouldn't recommend buying one if you already have a industrial/rough light that uses a incan PR bulb. In that case I would just get a nite-ize 1 watt led upgrade.

That is the one, and I would bet the cree in it is easily swapped out for a better one also I seriously doubt a 1 watt drop in for $15 would beat a heatsinked cree like this one has for $13, Lowes has the niteize dropins for $15 BTW, save $2 give away that plastic incan if this one is decent. It won't be very impressive but should beat most incan lights in its price range.
