Where do they say 95 lumens for 90 minutes?

? Light Output: 95 lumens for 6 volt

? Light provides one hour of bright illumination on each set of batteries

Electrical Specifications
? Battery Life: 1.5 hours (depending upon temperature)

Probable translation: Performance typical of 2x123 xenon lights.

I realized I'd mis-read the specs a few minutes after I wrote my resonse. I saw the "light output 95 lumens" and "battery life 1.5 hours", so I thought the claim was: 95 lumens for 1.5 hours. The second statement above corrects that to: 95 lumens for 1 hour, obviously dimming but still-useable for 30 more minutes.

Still, is this considered "typical" performance for 2x123 lights? Surefire is getting 65 lumens for an hour, is everyone else getting 50% more lumens with the same runtime? I understand the textured reflector might be stealing away some lumens from the SF, but sheesh.

Joe,

This wasn't meant to be a criticism, especially since my first impression was the same. About those 90 lumens vs SF 65, I think you said it best: "Guys, if there's one thing we've learned from flashlight after flashlight, it's that we can't believe anyone's specs until we try them out ourselves, and in particular we can't believe specs that are suspiciously higher than Surefires". Basically I meant that regardless of what they claim, the performance is likely to be what we have come to expect from a good 2x123 xenon light.

I'm just going to wait until someone gets one.

The photograph of the Operator is roughly one half life size.

The head will be roughly one and one half inches in diameter.

So that little light will have a head almost the diameter of the TL-3. That might make the OP6 the furthest throwing 2x123 light, but at the cost of bulk (sorry Charlie) and EDC unfriendliness.

OTOH, why should tactical lights be tailored to our convenience?

That looks a lot like the lights made by Laser Devices that I thought that Strategos Intl had got together with. Similar specs too from memory.

6-Volt "Operator" OP-6 Handheld

These aren't "new" since I've seen them at the SHOT Shows and not just this year when I almost cut open my finger on the TailCap of one. I believe Laser Devices have been making these for several years.
The Lamp Bezels are used by a German company for the British Army weapon-mounted lights (it appears to be the case cos I did some digging to find out about them. I'm at work so I can't check)

Thank you Al. I was racking my brain trying to remember where I saw that light at the 2003 SHOT show. I could only think that the name had the word laser in it.
I have spec sheets on this at home. AFAIR, this light can be reconfigured in a number of ways.

I just got out my 2003 Laser Devices, Inc. catalog. The specifications are identical with the exception that the battery life on the LD TL-2 says 1 hour. I'm really disappointed in myself that I didn't catch this since I was thinking the picture was vaguely familiar.

The light may be mounted to quite a number of different weapons and has all sorts of different switch assy's.

Thanks Al!

The LD-OP6 and the TL-OP6 are the same lights. TL, it seems, is going to have a modified version for O.C. capabilities.

Aha. They even have the same typo:

Mechanical Specifications
Diameter of Head: 1.0 in.; 2.5 cm
Environment: Waterproof to 20 meters

[/ QUOTE ]

The above is from the LD OP-6 and it gives the same 1.0" diameter for the head as the Tigerlight. Which as Brightnorm pointed out can't be right. The body would be too narrow to hold 123s.

I can see why that name might have slipped your mind! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

Oerlikon made some famous automatic cannons.

"Almost" still doesn"t cut it Al.

This is vey true.

Put it this way:
If it was a furniture product I was testing I would have failed it against the safety standards for Kitchen and Domestic Storage Furniture... But it's not furniture, I understand this. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

It's not a Surefire so it's inferior and unsafe.

tkl,

I didn't say that. You may want to say that but I don't.

I posted my experience of a single tailcap of one of the flashlights that I handled at the SHOT Show 2003. It was an "ON/OFF Toggle Switch End Cap" LDI Part # 30121. I believe it was a 9V model too.

By the looks of it, the OP6 doesn't come standard with that type of switch.

I've not commented on my impressions of the quality of the flashlights or the beams that I saw.

I have made no claim in this thread that they are inferior to SureFires. I maintain that I would have failed the tailcap of one of the models I saw at the SHOT Show 2003 if I was subjecting it to testing to the European (BS EN) Safety Standards for either Domestic or Kitchen Furniture because it had sharp edges.

I did not say the product was unsafe. I said I would have failed it against the safety standards. In order for me to say it was unsafe I would use testing to the safety standards to build a case for it to fail to meet the General Product Safety Regulations. Only then would I say it is unsafe.

AL:

My apologies.

My post about "almost" still doesn't cut it was just a play on words.

I have been accused of baiting you, and believe me that was not my intention.

I appreciate you further explanation of the switch configuration on the OP6.

Thank you.
