New York - not a good place for flashlights

Wow! Just got back from New York and I barely used any of my flashlights! The place just never gets dark enough really. The only time they were used were to look for items under the bed while I was packing, and reading a menu in a ridiculously under-lit restaurant.

Between my lady and I, we were carrying three Lummis, one Fenix and one Surefire, neither attracting any suspicion from the TSA on board the aircraft. However, the one place that they did attract attention was whilst visiting the Empire State building. I was asked to explain what the Raw Ti was. Luckily, one of the security guards came over and explained that it was a flashlight, pulling out something that looked like an Inova X5 to demonstrate. Of course, I had to demonstrate the insane output of the Raw too

But, I have to hand it to security, they were very thorough. My Leatherman Squirt P4 was not allowed with me to the top, but was returned promptly upon my return to the ground.

On a not-so-happy note, I picked up a Leatherman Juice Xe6 whilst on my travels. Unfortunately, it had an unacceptable habit of jamming everytime I closed it. It is currently in the possession of Whitby and Co awaiting repair / replacement :mecry:. Whatever happened to quality control? My Squirt P4 is still working flawlessly despite being used for many warranty-violating jobs.

I must confess, I do love the opportunity to show off the Raw Ti. Just waiting for the day when a security guard with a big 3D Maglite tells me to put away my puny little keychain light.

Whilst in the US, I picked up a MagLED 2AA for my friend that has just joined the Police Specials. I just cannot believe it! It was only about £13 in Target, yet they are about £40 here in the UK! Talk about rip-off Britain.

Also picked up a Surefire G2 for the parents' caravan. The only flashlight they have is a 2AA rubber torch that is as old as me, and with horrid, dim, sickly-yellow output. My hope is that the long-running Lithium chemistry will prove more useful.

So maglites really are that cheap in the states, I always thought the guys on hear were just winding us Brits up!

orlac we cant even by a mag aaa for less than £10($20 ish) over in the uk lol

Rob really puts out a superior product. I've purchased two already, have a Raw AL on the way and can't wait for the Wee DA. That would make four excepting some fine gentleman decided to pinch my WeeNS along with my workout bag the other day. :mecry:

i only own 1 lummi so far which is the wee couldnt decided on the 25 50 or 80 so i ordered the spare pills been using the 50 the most.

when i recived it i couldnt belive how small but VERY VERY well made it is, was also impressed with robs customer service he allways answered my emails in a couple of hours

problem is now cant decided what to order next lol

Look don't tell anyone else this, I shouldn't really pass this on, but, did you know Rob gives all his UK customers a free bottle of Orb beer with every purchase!

If you look really carfully at the pic next to Mikes name, both him and his lady friend are holding a bottle of Orb beer.

I guess he couldn't send any Orb beer over to the US because of the import tax or something. So it's all a bit hush hush, so don't bother asking him, he'll just say I'm making it up.........................:nana::nana::nana::nana:

It did attract plenty of attention in the restaurant, my lady was not impressed. Normally, I could read it, but I had been drinking on an empty stomach and my vision was not quite focussed.

Indeed I did. I had a friend that has just joined the police specials, so I picked up a MagLED 2AA from Target for him, with a 4-pack of Energizer L92 lithium cells. I also bought a Surefire G2, which I will mount in the parents' caravan along with a bunch of spare Surefire cells.

I also picked up a Leatherman Juice Xe6 too, but, to my horror, I found that it was faulty as soon as I got home! Have sent it to Whitby and Co. to have it sorted. Not impressed after having two Squirt P4s which have been to hell and back and still performed.

I would have recommended a trip to Paragon Sports, so if you didn't make it there then make sure you put that on the list when you next visit NYC. Prices are not spectacular, but their selection is impressive.

Looking forward to my first Lummi - the Raw Al - hope it ships soon!

Avid Hiker, Paragon Sports is exactly where I went. You're right, the prices are actually above the recommended retail price. In Paragon, the Juice Xe6 was supposed to be $89.99, but someone had left the RRP $79.99 tag on, and I demanded it at that price.

That reminds me, that package that just arrived could be my Juice Xe6. It is either that or my Surefire E1e replacement parts or my Fenix E01. Anyone's guess really, they are all coming from the same place.
