Okay, so I ordered my first Li Ions, and they arrived today. The charger I ordered apparently doesn't work with 14500's (grrr), but that's not my real question.

Of the two batteries I ordered, one of them looks mis-shapen, the negative end is not perpendicular to the rest of the battery. (The one on the right.)

Is this thing safe to charge? use?

Do you think it'll charge or work in a light?

thats the protection circuit PCB... its just slightly misaligned, no harm should come of using it.

The protection circuit board is held in place by the shrink wrap ..
Looks like a bit of a sloppy job , should be fine to use as long as its not damaged .

Are those Ultrafire cells?

You might want to chuck them anyway. Ultrafire rechargeables are about as consistant as the sanity level in a mental asylum. Some work fine. Some won't charge up. Some charge up, but self-drain at a ridiculous rate. Some charge up once, then refuse to do so ever again.

Get AW brand rechargeables. They cost a bit more, but are extremely reliable.

I've got Ultrafire cells, not in that size but 18650, they do the job well, but since starting to buy AW realised it is worth paying the extra for them, performance is just so much better on them, but the Ultrafires work fine, although I do have 1 that does indeed seem to fully discharge over night, so threw it.

You were definitely fortunate. Ultrafires are so Hit or Miss. When you get a Hit, it's all good. But yeah, consistency is best. :twothumbs
