Hey all, glad i found this place. Im hoping you guys can give me some recommendations.

Im looking for a weapon light for my ar15.

I am going to mount it in one of these:

The rifle is going to be used for home defense.
looking for a light that is

LED
Momentary only tail-cap
Around 100 lumen
1" diameter body
Hopefully not longer than 5"

Trying to keep the price as low as possible also.

Thanks for the help, i have been trying to read and find something like this on my own but there is too much information and my head is starting to spin.

Looking around it seems like the T.O.P. stryker lx6zk2 has about everything i want except being an incan.

Does anyone know a good ~100 lumen drop-in that would work for it?

By the looks of it, the design would make it hard to access the tailcap, you may want to think about getting a light with a pressure switch. Another thing is price, how much are you wanting to spend and 100 lumens isnt very bright considering whats available now days.

I know that generally 100 lumens is comparatively low, but given the rifle would mainly be for home defense, I am figuring that the splash from a 200+ lumen drop in would probably blind me every time i tried to spash a room.

The grip has a button built into the back of it that is used to push the plunger on the tailcap, and the grip itself has the means to lock the button in the depressed position, so a clicky is actually a hinderance.

The handgrip has a thumb-stud to activate a Surefire-style momentary switch.

Canonically, a Surefire G2 would be one of the better choices; there's one used on the Marketplace for $20 at the moment without a dropin. Malkoff Devices makes some of the best (for you, I'd recommend the M60 or M60L), but a Surefire G2L ($25, lightly used) might be enough for your needs.

Use a Surefire G2 incan or 6P incan and then put a Malkoff M60L. The standard G2 and 6P have twisty tails on them that are momentary, coupled with a M60L (140 Lumens) and you will have your needs met.

Thanks for the ideas, I was also looking at the streamlight polytac.

But is there a way to make a clicky into a momentary only?

I have this exact handgrip/light on my M-4. As has been previously recommended, I used my 14-year old Surefire 6P incan with an LED dropin (I picked up a Wolfeyes last year). Roughly 200 lumens with an OP reflector - works pretty well. Ideally, I'd like to put an MC-E into it but am looking at runtime and heat issues. (I helped a bomb squad guy search a residence the other day and had the light on quite awhile - MC-E would have melted the head!)

The old Surefire press-for-momentary and twist-for-on tailcap works fine with this handgrip. I actually also tried my Dereelight CL1HV4 in it with a forward clicky - it worked fine also. You can quickly and easily figure out how far in the light should be inserted before you crank on the allen screw to tighten it in.

Nice piece of gear - works well - just make sure to have the appropriate sized allen wrench handy for when the batteries need to be replaced!!

A used 6P or G2 off the marketplace with a Malkoff (ideally) or other drop in would work great for you.

Good shootin'!!

You insert the light into the grip only far enough to activate the momentary function - but not far enough to cause it to "click" and turn on. As I said above, this is easily and quickly done.
