Just a quick hello and intro. I've been using LED lights for 6 or 7 years now - ever since the days of 4x5mm LED's in a mini-mag sized body (you know the type - one NEEDED a mini-mag to see if the LED's were on or off). Amazing new technology (to me, at least) at the time.

Have a bunch of el-cheapo 3xAAA 8- to 14-LED lights around the house which are still very useful. Got into CREE lights when they first came out and have been EDCing an AA version from LED Wholesalers for a year or so. A no-brandname light which probably puts out 30 lumens or so but was only $10.

To try to make a long story shorter, I decided I needed (read: wanted) a smaller/lighter EDC light and discovered this forum. After lurking here and reading your many (many, many, many...) thoughts and opinions, decided on a Fenix LD01 which I bought a few weeks ago from 4sevens (quick service!) and have been very happy with it. Then I thought to myself: Self, you need a better AA-sized light, so again, after much perusal of your posts, ordered a NiteCore D10, which 4sevens shipped a few days ago.

Oh, and came across the posts on the HD Husky lights here as well. Picked up one each of the 2xD and 3xAAA versions - great for the garage and workshop for the price.

Anyway - THANK YOU to all of you who post here and especially to all who post such great reviews. And PLEASE do not tell me which is the best/brightest/greatest thrower/best flood/friendliest UI/nicest color/tastiest light to buy today. I can't afford any more right now!

:welcome: My flashlight progression has been much the same as yours. I tend to read up on everything that interests me, but only buy when the technology provides significant gains that are important to me. The only advice I can give is to keep coming back. The technology behind our favorites is changing at a rate that is almost to fast to keep up with.

Thanks all for your welcomes. I've seen very few flames here, unlike some other forums I've visited. Folks here seem to be genuinely friendly and helpful to those of us who are currently "unelightened" (but I'm learning a great deal very quickly - especially the fact that my bank account stands a very good chance of imploding if I am not careful!)

Gunner 12 - I have a few 2xAA mini mags around somewhere but can no longer find my old 3xD. I really can't see the point of modding the little guys with so many fine purpose-designed LED lights out there.

rockz4532 - No issues with my LD01 changing modes on its own. I'm enjoying the light - in my pocket everywhere and hardly know it's there. I keep hoping the power will go out somewhere so I can come to the rescue! There are some things I would like to see changed, however (see... acting like a flashaholic already. You all are corrupting me.) I wish the low setting were lower - just 3 or 4 lumens would be nice, and I wish the light would either remember my last setting when turned on, or cycle low-med-high rather than starting on medium each time. Definitely keeping it though!

My NiteCore D10 arrived today and I am also very pleased with it thus far. My only experience thus far has been with alkaline primaries and NiMH cells. I cannot see any difference in brightness between the two. Would you experts recommend going to Li-Ion? I have too many chargers on my desk as it is between the NiMH charger and those for my cameras (I have too many of those as well, I'm afraid).

IIRC the D10 is probably one of the few lights where having a Li-Ion (with it's higher 3.6 volt) will not likely make the light much if any brighter. Their regulation in this light is different than many lights and thus it does not get brighter as many cheaper lights would which can use both batteries. I think some other Nitecores are like this also.

Welcome to CPF! Just be warned of flashlights' ability to quickly multiply. Oh, wait...you're already experiencing that. :D
