I want to get batteries locally and I;ve found Energizers, White bodied Duracells and Panasonic 2050 mAh AAs. Which is the "best" ?

I think they arre all good. For long run time, with low amp draw, the highest rated mAh ones will probably be the best. I mostly use GP and Maha 2000mAh.

We've found that the Energizer 2100 and 2300s are actually rebranded Sanyos. I have a dozen of the Energizer 2100s, and they are excellent batteries.

You can get 8 Energizer 2300s at WalMart for less than $20.

i have had energizer 1700 for 2 years! Havnt had a single one fail yet.

Some of them were used in a very "hostile" enviroment too... in my gas powered R/C car monster truck.

I have both the Energizer and GP batteries. I like the Energizer because they work well. The GP batteries sometimes give me trouble making a connection because they are short-height cells. Once in a while cannot make a connection when they are staked in series as the short-height is additive and gets shorter the more the cells get added.

Re: Ni MH batteries- Duracell/Energizer or Panaso

I've got a bunch of the Duracell "dynacharge" batteries that I use ALL the time. I've had them for a year and a half and never had one fail...

Thanks. I have a bunch of "low capacity" GPs (1300mah) and 8 (well, they keep getting misplaced) Sanyo 1600s. So far so good, but I can't find them here

Re: Ni MH batteries- Duracell/Energizer or Panaso

I find that there are only a few bad NiMH manufacturers out there (commercially available anyway). The ones you find at your local store (Target, Walmart..) are all pretty good. Rayovac, Energizer, Duracell are pretty much the same in my experience...even when you compare them to Maha, Sanyo and other branded "better" batteries.

The ones i do steer clear from are Lenmar, GP, and Nexcell. First off...there is a reason why they are so cheap. I can get 10 Lenmar AA's at Fry's for 10 dollars. Nexcell, and GP are equally as cheap. Some will argue that they've had good experiences with this...but i've heard more bad things about these batteries than any other manufacturers.

Also, i look at the track history of other manufacturers and see how they publish their capacity numbers. Some manufacturers overstate there capacity by over 200-1000mAh. Maha, Sanyo, Energizer, and Jetcell are ones that i have seen that don't overstate their claims. If it is listed as 2200mAh then it is somewhere close.

With any batter, just make sure you charge them properly, and if you insist on fast charging them all the time, use a fan. I've pretty much killed my Maha 1600 mAh batteries after 2 years by charging them ONLY in Rapid mode...even in a Maha CHarger they get really hot. Here in San Diego in the Summer, it can get 80 degrees indoors...couple that with rapid charging and hot batteries...even the best batteries will give up over time.

I use a Maxell 5 hr charger. I don't mind the long times, mainly because I have at least 6 already charged

Re: Ni MH batteries- Duracell/Energizer or Panaso

I'd trust any rechargeable made by Sanyo, very reliable and good technology, they have a fine long record in this game. Maha is good too. But not trust GP?? And GP is cheap?? Hell, for those of us who make the wickedest demands on our NiMH (like continuous discharge at 10s of amps, and rapid recharge), the best GPs are the preferred brand these days, and also the most expensive. I don't know what cheap NiMH they might sell, but their best are quite possibly THE best.

Re: Ni MH batteries- Duracell/Energizer or Panaso

I went to Target a week ago to buy some Energizer D-sized NiMH batteries and just as I put it the two pack in my cart I looked real close and gasped. In small letters it said the capacity was only 2300 mA. Huh? Rechargeable AA batteries put out 2300 mA. Then I noticed the two pack of D batteries seemed awfully light. I realized that there are AA batteries in the pack with a larger cans to look like a powerful D battery.

I really wouldn't have noticed the weight except I got in the mail a couple of days before four D NiMH batteries called Titanium with a 9000 mA capacity that are very heavy from www.amondotech.com. Those 9000 mA batteries are real and work great. They are heavy but work, and work, and WORK.

Is Energizer cheating with the D-sized batteries?

Re: Ni MH batteries- Duracell/Energizer or Panaso

Those Lightweight d batteries I believe, were meant to make any flashlight able to float in water long enough for it's owner to fish it back out of the lake when fishing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif
Other than that I smell a name brand rat. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Re: Ni MH batteries- Duracell/Energizer or Panaso

That's why when fishing you carry a small light with a lanyard, not a big HEAVY light, and especially not a big heavy light with a lanyard.

A small light can be fished right back out if it drops, a big heavy light will sink right to the bottom, and a big heavy light with a lanyard.. uhh, be careful not to let it fall into the water with it attached to you. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hahaha.gif

Anyway, one of my colleagues who enjoys his share of night fishing just bought a LED headlamp to solve THAT problem /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Headlight?, there went the only use I could think of for the /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hahaha.gif lightweight name brand nimh d cells. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Ni MH batteries- Duracell/Energizer or Panaso

a local store closed out the energizer c and d nimh at $.50 per 2 pack.
i bought all they had about 200 packs and gutted them for the sanyo 2200 mah sub c cells inside.
thats right sub c
a cheap way of making a consumer grade rechargeable that wont compete with their sales of alkalines.
at least they use good quality cells in them.
