Flashlight Enthusiast
Place: The Forest of Nisene Marks, Aptos, Santa Cruz County, CA.
Date: Saturday, December 6th, 2008
Carpool Meet Time/Loation: We will meet for carpooling at the Almaden Light Rail Station (Coleman Road and Winfield Blvd) in San Jose at 3:00 pm.
Hiking Distance: 7 miles
Estimated Time at Completion of Hike: 9:00 PM
Trail: Mostly we'll be following an old railroad track (1883-1923) that was used for logging, so the trail is actually an easy grade for walking.
Cost: $5 per person, which covers the trail camp fee that allows you to stay in the park after sunset; and also allows you to park your car past sunset too. Self registration is at the park entrance station. You may also spend the night in the trail camp too if you wish, but keep in mind there is no water other than what you bring in or filter from the stream.
What to Expect: Dark and spooky forest! There are also some interesting remnants of old wooden structures along the trail.
What to Take: Packing a lightweight jacket is recommended and also a cheap rain poncho just in case. FRS radio is useful in the event you get seperated from the group. Water, small meal or snack as we will be stopping along the way for a sit down break. Don't forget a flashlight. Geocaches are in the park if you want to download some caches to your GPS.
To attend just post and I'll add you to the list. If later you decide you can't make it then just post again.
Attendance List:
