:anyone: i have taken up night trail running and am asking for suggestions for a suitable torch.headtorches fall off so i`m using handheld-i have an e2l and an A2 but neither are quite right. the A2 lacks spill on incan. the leds`are not bright enough. the KL1 also lacks spill. i need great spill and reasonable throw and plenty of lumens plus 2-3 hour longevity.i`m thinking KL4 any other ideas?

Is this trail in the woods? You are probably better off with a good floodlight. The reason being if you have a light with throw, that means you probably will have a hotspot. A big and bright hotspot (based on what i've gathered) will reflect off quite a few things in the woods and make seeing things clearly difficult. In this case a flood light may be better suited for your situation.

You may want to carry a secondary light that has good throw so in case you get to an area that's not wooded, then you can use the throw light. Of course... this is limited to how much you want to carry when you go on the night trails.

The KL4 would do the trick, but to get longer runtime you would either need larger batteries (18650) or a two-stage switch with a very low resistor value. You could also consider the fenix L2D-CE.

dunno what light comes off Your head?
I used quite some headlamps on my helmet for night trail biking (additional light). Now its a Streamlight Argo HP, modded with SSC and 18650.
With a rechargeable Li-Ion (size 17650), even in original state, output is quite sufficient for running.
And there are quite other makes.

imho an additional handheld is a good idea, because the headlamp gives no shadows. Knee sized rocks look like a flat piece of stone till one hits it.

L2D-CE because of Your runtime requirement

Hey Yellow, how hard was that mod? Have any pics?

I've used a Petzel MYO 5 and an original Tika mountain biking and had no problems with them falling off. Although the output was pretty darn low :sssh: They helped me conserve the power of my handlebar halogen during climbs.
