I know christmas hasnt come yet, but i have it on pretty good faith that im going to be getting an MB-D80 battery grip for my D90.

And seeing as we are all battery safety conscious here, i thought i t would be wise of me to see if anyone knew if it was okay to mix the charges of batteries in the grip (like 80% on the left and 60% on the right)?

Thanks and Merry Christmas/Happy holidays!!!

Re: Nikon MB-D80 Li-ion batteries

...its not really related to the first question, but i guess its more efficient to ask it here instead of in a new thread.

I noticed today when i took my 2 AA LSD Radioshack brand batteries out of my Xbox 360 controller (died), i put them in my LaCrosse charger and they had discharged in an uneven fashion...again. One was 1.19V and one was 1.13. It seems like this happens to my batteries alot when i run them dead all the way in something. Is this bad for my batteries? and is it happening because theyre damaged, or because i run them down so far?

IIRC, my wife's D80 w/ MD-D80 grip uses the two batteries independently. In fact, I believe you can load only 1 battery in the grip and leave the other side completely empty if you were so inclined. So I don't think you need to worry about matching the state of charge if you will be loading two batteries in the grip. I could be wrong, as it's been a while since I've messed with it.

Ok thanks, thats a load off my chest.

Ok so i opened it and tried and i thought id post the result here incase anyone else was wondering. It measures each battery separately as "left slot" and "right slot".

Hello Chew socks,

When cells are matched for use, they tend to discharge more evenly. If you don't want to take the time and effort to match cells for use, simply recharge more often.

In your Xbox you should now have an idea of how long the cells lasted, so you can just keep track of when you last charged them and recharge them a little earlier, rather than let them go completely dead.
