I have a completly and totaly beat 3D M@G and was courious if any of you know what emitter Nite Ize uses for their replacement like this:
http://www.niteize.com/collections/flashlights/products/led-upgrade-kit-cd-cell and what would the output be with fresh alkilines?

Would this be better? http://www.niteize.com/collections/flashlights/products/1-watt-led-upgrade-cd-cell

I know these are cheap / not so great, but considering the condition of the "Beater Mag" that just puked the last spare incan bulb I had.... and I can get either of these for next to nothing

Thanks!

Hi Cpt. Thomas, I'm new here but have one of the standard type LED upgrde bulbs in my 2D mag. Its only a little brighter but very much whiter/bluer than the incan bulb. It is an improvment over standard but nothing to get excited about. The best thing about it is you'll get about 50 hours run time from fresh alkaline batteries instead of 9-10 hours, and it won't break and leave you in the dark if you continue beating your mag up! Give it ago they're only cheap.

The 1 WATT version i dont know about, but i would imagine its a little bit brighter at the expense of runtime.

I have the 1-watt version of the LED upgrade for my 3-D cell Maglight (second link shown), and it is a good improvement over the incan bulb. Better color, a bit brighter, very long run time, and the bulb will NOT break. The one drawback is that when you adjust the beam to flood, there is a donut hole (dark spot) in the center of the beam. Doesn't bother me, as I leave the light set to spot anyway. Hey - what is it like in Saipan today? Cheers, Jeff O.

I have quite a few of the first ones (both generations), none of the second ones (becasue they're more expensive and I already have the Terralux look-a-like). They will run for a verrrry long time, but are dismal at any kind of real throw. Pretty much pwer outage or when the SHTF use only in my opinion. Unless you like very low light output levels. They're good for replacing the replacement bulb in the tailcap. They will run when the main light won't becasue the batteries are too low. Current draw is 100ma +/- 20ma (80 to 120ma). They will still light with alkaline batteries at -7F. Tested this myself. Will still put out some light with completely depleted leaking alkalines (had to throw the $1 flashlight away, but the bulb was still good). They really need to be used in a focusing flashlight. Non-focusing flashlights are doeable with a difuser on the lens. They work ok in the small 4AA lanterns with flange bulbs.

Their biggest problem is that they use so little current that the batteries will leak before the bulb quits working. The light output will definately be lower by then, but may go unnoticed until too late.

The local Walmarts here still carry them. for $8.88.

Thanks guys! Sounds like just what I need. A cheap, less breakable, slightly better replacement bulb for beat up light light just short of the garbage can. DPDO has a few left they are throwing away so FREE dollars and fifty cents sonds like the right price! lovecpf

Mostly sunny, a few cotton candy clouds, even a sprinkle or two from the fast moving pacific trade winds. Windy today, about 10mph constant, gusting to 15-18 mph. Surf is up, beach is great, local & Philippina chicks are HOT  and were getting ready to go back to the Sand Box ....... again .
