i am looking for a good piston drive nitecore flashlight under $60 what would be my best bet as a bright thrower? something i can fit in my pocket

Well if you are including 'piston drive nitecore' in the description then youre limiting yourself to the D10, EX10 and D20. None of these are strictly 'budget' lights so i'm not too sure why this has been posted in this forum. But for throw In a compact size that 'you can fit in your pocket' the EX10 R2 would definately be your best bet.
You will have to buy CR123 batteries or invest in a li-ion kit to run the light however, and I would point out that you are making you options extremely limited with the wording of your question..

Also, Nitecores werent made to throw....
Why would you say that, I think they throw pretty darn good for their size.....It's not like they are flood lights.

Very true.... But if you want an actual thrower.....

eeeh.... they do throw decently, but that's kinda just by muscling it out with sheer lumen output. Across 7m+ lights with a tighter spot like quarks or iTP Elumas will start out-throwing them.
