Hey all. I've been doing alot of reading on here regarding brands, throw, etc. and finally pulled the trigger on my first "considerable" flashlight purchase. I bought a Surefire G2L Saturday and very impressed with it's features. Granted, I've always been a flashlight fanatic since I was a child, but never to this extent. I've purchased alot of LED's in the past few months.....Dorcy Metal Gear started it all when going on a ATV trip and since then it's been a few more Dorcys, Brinkmanns, Garritys, Energizer Hard Cases, Maglites, and now Surefire. I do alot more reading than posting, so I've still got a lot to learn.....excellent website.:twothumbs

:welcome:

Next purchase, I recommend Surefire L1 Cree! It´s a superb little light.

Great light to start with, though it could be a lot brighter if they drove the LED harder(shorter runtime). It also helps remove temptation of the cheaper lights(some are still pretty good for the price). Thread about compatible drop-in modules here.

There are also many bright LED drop-ins and Incan mods for the Maglites, an if you can solder, you can probably upgrade all the high power LED lights you have to one of the current generation(just swap the LED and you should get at least 2x the output, the G2L is already using a current gen LED).

:welcome:

Welcome to CPF. The G2L is a very nice light. It will serve you well and is upgradable. Good job.

Welcome!

I'm failry new as well, and my first light was a G2.

I then got an A2 and an E1E.

I still haven't opened the package for the E1E, but I love the A2 and the G2 is about the best bang for the buck in a high-end light! The LED option can only make it better!

Congratulations on your new G2L! You might as well just start saving up for your next Surefire because there can never be "just one".

:D

Welcome camlocker! I think you made a good choice. And as you progress through your "flashaholism" this light would be easy to sell for an upgrade or very easy to mod as well. Enjoy!

I opened the E1E last night...

It's my new money clip! This little sucker ROCKS!

The new EDC for me, although a bit sharp on some of the edges. I have my cash (what's left of it after the purchase) in the clip in my pocket, with the window up, to keep my keys from destroying it. I suppose it will get destroyed anyway, but for now, I'd like to keep it decent.

The A2 is fun around the house, but most useful in the drivers seat. I REALLY like that light, as it is perfect for it's intended purpose.

The G2 lives at work now. I'd love to have a "G1"- that would be a perfect EDC, as the Nitrolon is a bit smoother on the edges and doesn't 'jingle' in the pocket... Maybe I can modify a G2 body into a G1... Stay tuned...

EDIT: G1L!

So sad, so true!! There is just something about a Surefire.

There can never be just one, but I think you could live with 2 or 3...
A 6p or G2 for a mod mule, something for EDC, and maybe a two-stage light like an L1, L2, or Aviator. Depending on you, this may overlap with the EDC light requirement. Gets fuzzier if you want a weapon light or something like that, or anything else exotic (or uber-powered). Still, there's lots of good vendors for those, comparable to Surefire in quality.

Welcome & congrats Camlocker-
I went your route with alot of lights till my first SF...a 6P gunmetal satin, I still love that light 15 SureFires later. The L1 Cree was my next and is my all time favorite EDC. Tip: As you acquire SF's resist the temptation to sell any, so many guys have said they regretted doing so...I say hang on to each one.

Hey JIM-
For that E1E, you've got to try the Lumens Factory "EO-E1R", extreme output, 3.6v, 90 lumens, it will use one RCR123, rechargeable...The performance is fantastic with a great 100 yard throw, for about $12 or so, you can't go wrong and what great fun coming out of that itty-bitty flashlight. PM me if you want.
