The world of LEDs is far more complex than plug it in and put some power to it. I have discovered that in the short time since I joined this forum. Understanding LEDs takes knowledge of circuits, materials, heat transfer, power conversion as well as other areas. This forum is packed full of useful information, but I haven't yet found the basics thread that explains how to get started.

Is there a website or book that would go a long way to explaining the mentioned topics and how they are used in real life applications? I'm keen to use LED technology here and there, auto and home, but hate to ask silly noob questions every time I switch scenarios. It would be much more beneficial to understand the theory and be able to apply it variously, than it is to learn how to make a 12VDC LED for my dome light, and again for my tail light, then a 120VAC uplight.

Where can I learn how to fish instead of just getting a fish from this thread and that thread?

Thanks!

Thank you,

I often suffer from poor searching skills. It would be beneficial to have a sticky that highlights many of the often asked questions. I've seen that other topics and sub-topics have sticky's and that is where I looked first.

There are such stickies. For some reason, no one ever reads them...

Some are even prominently featured in the banner on the sides and top of the main page.

Howdy lonesouth and welcome to CPF,
Yes, it can all be a bit overwhelming at first. Personally, I think it's commendable that you asked for help, not for a specific question, but for directions to our FAQ resource page. Happy reading! :welcome:
