I was thinking about using a NovaTac for a build, but wasn't sure how the reflector does with different emitters.

Are they designed with a balance, flood/throw in mind? Are they more one than the other?

I'd probably want to utilize an xpg in it just for the sake of max output.

An XP-G works very well in a NovaTac with a spacer. I've done a couple of these and I think they turned out pretty nice

Do you feel like you've lost too many lumens from recessing the xpg?

I was planning on driving one at 1500mA, and I didn't want to waste much output. I wasn't sure how far I would need to go back using that reflector to get decent throw with the xpg.

(Maybe there is a decent xpg reflector that works with the novatac head??)

I'd say that there's not much loss at all, but I'm not an expert on that end of it...
