I have a NR Storm HID that has stopped working. NR was no help as they reccommended borrowing a bulb from a local dealer to try. Well nobody stocks bulbs and at $120 I'm not inclined to buy on just to try it out. Is there a way to test the ballast or bulb to see if they are good?

The light was pretty yellow a couple of days and then quit for good. When I first power up the light you can hear the ballast buzz maybe 4 quick times and the bulb glows a little on each buzz but then goes out.

Any ideas?

As an option is there an LED conversion for a HID light that might drop in to the current housing?

Thanks
Chuck

I would put my bet on the ballast. I have two friends with NR HIDs that failed and in both cases it was the ballast. The funny thing is it happened at a 24 hour race, and NR was able to repair them on-site at the race.

Sorry I can't really suggest any way to test to be sure, short of finding another one to swap parts with.

test for what?

imho, but I am no expert on HIDs (and think anyone is better off with led than using a 10 W HID), there is only one thing that can happen to the bulb with use: the contacts are soo eroded that the gap is too wide
(if ever a HID is used for that amount of time)

anyway, at startup, there should be some sparks between, only with the "bad" burner, the arc wont get steady and fail.

But when there are no sparks at all (and a clicking sound), its the ballast.
